    Player's Log

So far my goal of beating two games per month has gone swimmingly. Here's an update since last time.

Titanfall 2: Man, what a great campaign. Amazing storytelling synced with fluid and fun gameplay. I thoroughly enjoyed every mission and really had a great time. Would love to hunt down the rest of the pilot helmets and such at some point just to get to go through the story again. And multiplayer is still a great time.

Portal: Yeah, despite being very familiar with Portal over the years, I'd never actually played it. What a fun game! Kind of a shame it took me so long, but I see now why it had such a stranglehold on the culture for a while. Really good time.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown: Good heavens I loved this game so much. I hadn't played a PoP game since Sands of Time, and I haven't played many metroidvania-style games up until the last year, but I just loved every second of this game. My first platinum trophy, too, which was neat: love seeing that notification pop up right as the final boss dies. 10/10, amazing game, absolutely loved it. Still need to beat the rest of the trials at some point (I think I've done...2), maybe do some boss rush stuff, and play the Mask of Darkness DLC.

Right now I'm playing Spyro the Dragon for the first time, and should have that done pretty soon. Otherwise it's just Skyrim and TOTK until April.

This is a great batch of games that I'd just consider pure fun. I haven't played POP TLC but I'd like to.

Portal 2 is next level and while Portal was good, 2 is chefs kiss. I've never felt smarter than in some of the chambers in that game. While hard at times, I never had to cheat. If you get stuck, I recommend a break as whenever I came back to it after struggling, I'd get the solution almost right away. Sometimes you just hit a wall.

Also, whoever shouted out Clar Obscur Expedition 33 in here... thank you. I have not been this excited about a game in forever. From the early impressions, to the trailers, to just reading about the story, it really seems like something special that I can't wait to play. (I know it's gotten attention elsewhere, but I had never heard of it till it was discussed here).

Right now I'm playing disco Elysium for the 2nd time and loving it, then I'll probably play Citizen sleeper than I'll be sick of point and click / text based games and be ready for something more hands on so that'll scratch that itch.

It's ok to jump into Xenoblade with XCX right? From what I understand it's a separate story. I'm interested in the games but absolutely can't commit to 4 of them right now so looking for the best place to jump in

I said this in the other thread, but there's nothing more reassuring of an adaptation than someone who knows absolutely nothing about it or the medium it travels in.

Definitely, it's also the first to come out between the 4 games. So you're good.

Already responded to you in the other thread. lol But he doesn't say he doesn't know the games. He's just saying he didn't physically play them. Unless you watched the video and he elaborates then disregard.

Wait what? I thought Xenoblade Chronicles was the first, then XCX, and then the other sequels? Either way, sounds like I can just start with X so I will eventually do that (maybe, hopefully)

I'll be contrarian and say that yea, they need people who know the source material in and out and what makes it 'tick', but you also need someone who understands the medium it's being made in as well. There are good and bad examples of video game adaptations these days, but I'll never understand the people who think that a show made in a video game style is going to have mass appeal. From some video game adaption complaints, it's like some people literally want to watch a twitch stream with the cut scenes stitched together and the combat consolidated. Yea... real good TV for the rest of us.

I get that there are some decisions that kill or butcher large portions of the story that were beloved, but there are also other changes where I'm just like 'now that's good TV. Totally different, but damn good TV'.

I think it could be an interesting way to play it. I don't know the full story, but sounds like it sucks for the original creators and that they're not involved or going to benefit from it, and I just don't want to get into mobile games ha. I have a hard enough time getting off my phone and going to sleep as it is. I don't need more things to keep me bleary eyed into the early hours of the morning.
