i legit think it won because of the divisiveness of the more obvious choices. half of the table was against GoW and half against RDR and neither side really got the floor to be fully enthusiastic about either, save for the RDR talk in Best Moment.

Yeah, it's a fuckin' lot man. As they said in the discussions, the developers made decisions to make game play elements slow (skinning animals, looting, walking around camp), which is just baffling.

 

Dead Cells was number 2

 

I do need to get Tetris though, especially now that I have a PS VR.

 

Tetris Effect, while incredible, beating out God Of War is just silly. They just wanted to be edgy and different.

Yeah I mean I think they are just making it personal. As a best of list should be.

On their Reddit there's always someone that takes the staffs person top 10 and gives them points (1st place gets 10 points, 2nd gets 9, etc.) and then writes a top 10 list based on those rankings, it's always wild to see how similar, but different they can be.

 

do you have a link to one for this year, that sounds great

 

I mean, it's more than just Tetris, especially in VR, but it's not game changing like God Of War with no cutscenes and no load times, etc.

 

This year was extremely close to the actual GOTY. I'll have to find last years, that was was wildly different.

The numbers were extremely close this year. Tetris ended up edging Dead Cells by just 1 point, which in turn beat God of War by just 2 points.
