most of the heavy frame drops esp wrt to mouse and areas were fixed in today's patch.

it's still not perfect but it's definitely the most playable version of the 5 now.

    Player's Log: Psycho-Pass.

So I've played the game for 21 hours and I've just now finished the first (and best) ending.

I don't know if it's the best ending for both characters, but I assume it is since I'm also assuming the other character's playthrough has the same plotline but just from his perspective. We'll see.

Anyway, now I get the fun job of going through the other routes to see what I missed and get more achievements. There are 36 achievements in the game. I've gotten 3, and while some are unlocked by purchasing in-game extras (more on that in a bit), most are not.

I've got a lot of game left ahead of me.

Now, I say I spent 21 hours, but it wasn't all on the main story mode. There's actually a bonus game, a cute version of 2048 using the Psycho-Pass characters as numbers that you can play to rack up points.

These points are in turn used to unlock the bonus content like voice clips and artwork. Unlocking all the goods equals achievements, so I've been trying to do that as well. It's a fairly addicting game within the game.

As for the story, it felt pretty much like a season of the anime. There's a lot of dark and somewhat depressing stuff that happens in these cases, but the overall storyline's true ending ends on a hopeful and happy note for the protagonists, even if they had to take a bleak route to get there.

The theme of the game is an exploration of happiness, and how that takes many forms, and what that ultimately means to various people. Can happiness be measured and defined? Or is it something more nebulous that can only be felt to be understood?

Along the way though, there's light detours into drug abuse, depression, obsession, child abuse, and trauma of all kinds, so if anyone wants to check this game out, be warned. It's not a happy and friendly time in the neighborhood.

Hopped back into Rising Star 2. Damn that game is fun. My keyboardist quit the band a few days before our first gig. Also, the van is nearly busted.

    Elden Ring exceeding all expectations.

It's like the first brainstorm sesh at From's office was like, "y'know all that stuff that's troped out in open world AAA games? Let's go ahead and do the OPPOSITE of that as much as possible and build from there."

What a breath of fresh air this game is - the sense of adventure it offers is like playing Zelda for the first time only the stakes are higher everywhere you go and more is expected of you. Hopefully this opens some doors for possibilities that future big budget open world games take note of.

The influence is undeniable, and I'm tempted to say ER might be taking much of BOTW's forward thinking design choices a bit further. It'll likely impact open word game design a bit more than BOTW did (it's still odd to me how seldom games last gen seemed to be inspired by it), and will no doubt impact the Soulslike genre.

I already like ER way more than BOTW to be honest

I think you’re only starting to see it now, with this game. Open world games take time.

I dunno man BOTW's vibe can be a refreshing winddown from how brutal and stark ER is at times haha

Depending on the budget, sure, but even with big budget games you'll see the influence of earlier releases on later ones spanning a console lifecycle. The Witcher 3 probably had the most impact on last gen open world design than anything else, defiitely more than BOTW. BOTW wasn't nearly as influential as I expected.

Anywho I reckon ER and the upcoming Zelda sequel might change that though ^_^

BotW is my favorite game of all time, Elden Ring isn't even my favourite From Soft title so far, but it's the one I would recommend for people to get into the series.

I don’t Witcher 3 did anything particularly new, it just looked good while doing it

The Witcher 3 brought the cinematic video game as movie style from games like uncharted and the last of us into an open world fantasy setting which having previously been dominated by the elder scrolls where theres always shallow, worthless stories that were just fodder for the open world. the storytelling in The Witcher 3 really pushed the genre forward imo especially when it comes to side quests

For the record I think dragon age inquisition did the same albeit to a lesser degree but it largely gets overlooked next to the two fantasy behemoths (Skyrim and Witcher 3) when it was every bit as influential to the genre as those games were
