This is probably true, but I feel like this machine was really hyped up to be super compatible with the entire Steam library, and from all reports I've heard so far, it's not. It's kind of frustrating.

It doesn't play Windows games because the Windows drivers haven't even been released yet and you can't play games like Destiny 2, Halo Infinite or Lost Ark because they aren't compatible because of the anti-cheat systems they use.

Man, The Arena in HFW is some truly brutal shit. I snagged that trophy and bounced.

There's something you all need to know:

Some of the time trials in Hot Wheels Unleashed are absolute bullshit.

    Thank you for your time.

I gave Elden rings 20 minutes and just requested a refund.... 100% not a game for me.
    1. Framerate issues right off the bat (which I fixed but it was still annoying)
    2. It assumed i had a controller and was annoying to even navigate the menu (esc button didnt work) till I found out how to change the prompt to mouse and keyboard.
    3. The message system... most of the messages I came across were stupid and juvenile and there were so many... no idea if I can just ignore them? I was worried I'd miss in game items so I was reading them all, and they were all just player left messages.
    4. Nothing seemed explained... what are the ghost things randomly running around? Why am I touching all the bloodstains and nothing is happening? No quick combat tutorial?
    5. Same with the story... what? Not a very compelling opening.
    6. Walk around for 2 minutes... monster... dead? No idea how to dodge, parry, attack yet.... I don't know if I was supposed to die here or what....
    7. Then I could either go out a door or jump into a pit... jumped into pit... more fighting things... something about resting zones and HP regen but monsters respawn... No idea where I'm going or what this place is in relation to where I was a second ago before I died.
    8. Keyboard controls were frustrating... WASD and arrow keys and mouse. I only have 2 hands from software.

I completely understand your frustration. Unfortunately these items are part of the experience in these games. The reason why many don’t like them. The other problems you are having are unfortunate and I’m sure they aren’t helping you enjoy the game.

I get it. I tried bloodborne and didn't get far, but I felt this one would be a bit more casual to get into. I am generally pretty good at knowing when a game is just not for me though and cutting my losses so that's what I did. Maybe when I eventually get a PS5, I'll try it on console. I have no doubt that the 10/10's across the board, and the hype are for a reason.

I’m sorry but if you only gave 20 minutes, how is that possibly enough time to determine the story is bad and the mechanics aren’t explained

I will say the internet is your friend with these games. Along with the multitude of other people that have played them. There is a thread for the game and I think you could give it another go and ask as many questions as you need. There are a lot of newcomers to the From games and you aren’t alone.

Honestly that reaction is probably 10-15% of the people who buy it and have never played a from game lol.

Fair point, I think the frame rate issue, and the control prompts being for controller instead of mouse and keyboard, and then already feeling like the arrow keys, wasd mouse combo was going to be a poor way to play it, soured it for me pretty quickly. I then died on the first thing that attacked me.

I never said the story was bad (or didn't mean to as it's obviously too early), it could be great and I think from reviews, it probably is. I just didn't enjoy the opening cinematic as a 'hook'. I may go back to it when it's on sale. I panicked about spending $60 for a game I wasn't going to enjoy, so I went with the quick halt and refund request (through steam). Maybe in a month I'll have a better understanding of what I'm getting into and will have more patience to try again.

I definitely had an “oh god what am I getting myself into” moment early on but now I’m five hours in, I haven’t even left the first area, and I’m having a great time

Right of the bat I’ll say this: if you’re not willing (or can’t) play with a controller, you made the right choice. Every time you move the mouse the game will slow to a crawl as it streams data as you turn the camera and it’s optimized for the rotation speed of a controller.

All your other issues get resolved by just playing the game. Almost everything happens very deliberately, you just have to let the game kinda “do its thing” for 1-2 hours and everything will click.
These soulslike games are a genre of their own and have quite a steep learning curve, and yes, a lot of that is how obtuse they are, but on the other hand they reward a curious mind. Eventually.

the game itself is fairly goofy at times and the messages add to that, that won’t change unfortunately but they will also save your life sometimes ;)
You’ll learn to know when it’s important to read them. That said you’re absolutely free to ignore them. Hell, I wish I could just turn them off without playing offline altogether.

My favorite one was on top of some crates. It said: Maybe destruction?
So I broke the crates to find a message underneath:
    Destruction!

From Software/Dark Souls games are great, but they're also overhyped. Also, I used to be someone who was like "fuck there's a 10/10 and I haven't played it" and then I would get depressed because I'd think "there's a 10/10 and I don't like it, why do other people think it's so great, what's wrong with them? What's wrong with me?" But now I am (very) slowly getting to the point where it's "oh look, a 10/10 game I don't want to play, neat."

It’s remarkable how many times I’ve seen people talk about the quality of a game as an authoritative figure only to later find out they played an hour or two tops lol. I mean I get bailing early if it clearly isn’t your thing which sounds like the case for OP but it’s surprising how often people will talk about games they put no time into as though they had a complete experience.

It’d probably too early for that conversation, but while I don’t think they’re overhyped per say, I strongly feel that we’re at a point where these games are just going through the motions and the decade+ old mechanics are showing their age. (The ranged combat for example)

Also the complete lack of mouse and keyboard support is fucking shameful from an accessibility standpoint, sure don’t make your games have an easy mode that’s fine but at least make it function on the most frequently used control configuration for PC users, which is the only way to play for certain people with disabilities. hearing that the game actively runs worse for using a mouse and keyboard is just pathetic. I understand that a gamepad is “preferable” but it should still fucking run and be functional for mouse and keyboard since that’s literally the only option for thousands of people with disabilities that won’t allow them to use a controller

You're nuts Lori, this game is going to end up being my favorite soulsborne game I can already tell.

I absolutely love the old trademark mechanics they keep. It's like a warm blanket that wraps around me while I play.

I honestly didn't think anyone wanted or did use mouse and keyboard for these games, I feel like it would make it way harder?

I thought Sekiro was a refreshing spin on the formula and I am looking forward to more experimentation from FROM.

Plus they will patch it up @sophos34 , they had to make sure the game ran for 5 different platforms, it will be nice when that doesnt have to happen for gaming companies!
