He's quite possibly the greatest video game writer and personally a favorite for many years. I know my feelings about this are small potatoes in comparison to what actually matters, but I'm kind of devastated by this. I hope she and whoever else he affected find some peace from all this finally coming out.

 

I never heard of the guy but it's always a bummer when someone you've invested a ton of time into turns out to be an extremely toxic, shitty person.

 

The obvious one for the site is B**** N** but the biggest one for me was pwr bttm sucks so much when people you admire/look up to turn out to be shitty

 

He worked at Black Isle while it was still around and then became one of the founders of Obsidian. He was the creative director and wrote Planescape: Torment, Knights of the Old Republic II, and most of the DLC to Fallout: New Vegas. He left Obsidian a while ago and has worked as a freelancer on many games since. It's definitely a bummer. But being a genius writer doesn't net you a pass. Or at least it shouldn't.

Fallout 2, Icewind Dale are milestone games for me and Van Buren is that vaporware that holds dearest to me. I just checked the games he’s involved with since, and a lot of them are games I adore pretty much (including freelance writing Into the Breach, and the upcoming Vampires game).

But I’m 100% with you Chris can fuck off. I’m angry too.

 

Along with Clint Hocking, his work was formative for me while growing up. His work honestly defined what I look for in RPGs. But even in the past year, I've played through a couple of games he's put some work into. Like, I had no idea he was one of the writers on Jedi: Fallen Order until recently.

I can't suddenly hate the stuff he's worked on, but wtf man. He can't be doing shit like that. Was he a creep from the beginning or did all that praise get to his head and make him think he could do whatever he wanted? Whatever the case is, I guess it doesn't matter. He should own up to what he's done, not for himself, but for the people he affected.

 

I don’t hate them (I think) a lot of them are cool really I just can’t do the gameplay
