Has anybody read a user review that has swayed them to purchase or not purchase a game?

I would definitely review a game I’ve never played 2 weeks after release for money

the idea is the more people that review something the closer you get to general public consensus and less about small group of bad actors controlling the narrative

 

That unique code idea would still require way more coordination than is likely to ever happen between Metacritic and game publishers. Every single copy of the game would need its own unique code.

None of this would even be a problem if news outlets would just...stop covering review bombing campaigns. That press coverage and anger is literally the only thing these people want and they get exactly what they want every single time this happens. Gotta stop taking the bait.

Could limit it to only the REALLY huge releases like TLOU2, which there are only a couple releases like that a year, but yeah I don't think the juice is even worth the squeeze.

I'll look at user reviews for lesser known games but I usually take to reddit and read various peoples reviews and personal experiences. Not fuckin metacritic.

I agree with you, that's what I've been talking about all morning. Like what you like and don't get worked up when other people criticize it.

 

I think they can be helpful when it comes to general performance. For example Steam reviews of Nier Automata

All the critics give it good reviews cuz well it's N:A but Steam reviews talk about how bad the performance is on the PC and that helps you know exactly what to expect from the port itself

I was posting this morning at like 9am and I checked again at 1030 and I missed like 4 pages at 50 ppp.

 

I'd set some time apart and dig through those 9 pages, there has been some serious critical thinking and analysis going on today.
