I'm not reading any reviews until I finish the game, I'll probably look into the criticism's after I'm done and see if I agree or not.

 

I did read the review and yeah no idea if I'd agree with it or not but I do think it was well written and I get the point of what the person was wanting to express about the game. And also agree that people shouldn't take what others are saying secondhand about the review as a summary of it.

 

People also are negative about a game before it's released and then are like told you it would be bad when they do turn out bad. People definitely want games to be bad sometimes

 

I have a real bad habit of hating things just because they are popular and I've tried really hard to change that about myself over the last few years. I feel like I've been successful a lot of the time. I watch and like more music and movies such as Marvel and popular artists, but things like this remind me of Kayne West. Regardless of how good a musician he is, his arrogance and saying he's the greatest living rockstar and then people praising him and fawning over him for it and his attitude makes me turn 180 and head in the opposite direction.

It feel like those teens at film school who want to be directors and they are such auteurs in their own minds.

 

Just seems to me that anyone who hasn’t been rabidly anticipating the game has been treated dismissively for a while in here.

I’m not playing the game until it’s discounted by a lot so I’m kind of done talking about it now that it’s out. It is what it is. The games I care about are coming out next month.

This always makes me think of when Laura and I went to a screening of Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me (which I fucking loved) and they had a Q&A with one of the actors afterwards and people in the audience kept asking the most pretentious ass questions and I just sat there thinking "good god I hate all of you" hahaha

 

Does Naughty Dog really say their game is a masterpiece though or is that just the fans?

but yeah that's definitely a good mentality to get out of, you miss out on a lot of cool stuff that way, lol.

 

I'm doing the same as you but instead am catching up on games I've missed right now haha. I haven't seen people who aren't anticipating TLOUII dismissed tbh but maybe I've just missed that. I too have not been anticipating it. Just feels like from the outside looking in it's been more of the opposite kind of aggression happening but eh maybe I'm wrong

 

I completely agree with both points.

Sometimes I feel people want to make stuff about hate just to be edgy, "hardcore" and deep instead of building up a proper foundation and execution.

Only playing the game will tell.

 

There's people on both sides. Some people have been extremely dismissive whenever someone said they're anticipating it.

 

listen as a Destiny fan I’m very much used to people hating on a game that I enjoy. The criticism of TLOU2’s themes and execution is nowhere near that level. It should be pretty easy to just let it go and not engage with it if it makes you that angry.

I wish I had a PS4 cause I very much enjoy analyzing potentially divisive media, RDR2 is a masterpiece

 

I mean, Bugsnax could be the best game in the world when it comes out but because it's not a prestigious studio it wouldn't matter.

Fans take criticisms like they're hate crimes. Any complaint about "10/10" AAA games, their darlings, and they send up pitchforks.

 

Again, I'm not referring to like, analysis. I'm not referring to people looking at themes of the game and analyzing plot points and etc etc. I'm referring to someone being like "oh hey I'm having a lot of fun" and the response to that being "lmao ok then loser" (exaggerated but you get my point)

 

I COULD LOOK AT A PAINTING OF THE DESERT AND OPEN A CAN OF BEANS AND GET THE SAME PAINSTAKING EXPERIENCE

 

Yeah I mean I’m not touching that kind of behavior, it’s not serious behavior. Trolls are trolls, it’s not the same thing.

I've seen that sentiment a lot before but it never makes sense to me, prestigious studios only become such because they put out great games. They might not get played as much initially but eventually the word will spread and people will take notice.

tbh also I should have said that nobody hates Destiny more than Destiny fans so nobody else can really compete

 

I take Outer Wilds as a great example of a no name studio putting out a prestige game. I say no name cause I have no idea what the studio name is lol
