I wonder if the naysayers on the narrative typically have a hard time with bleak media

I've only used my Switch for like the last month so it's infuriating every time I press O instead of X lol

 

guess we won’t know if the narrative is bland until we play it

a lot of the discussion on the forums and in that review posted in here was that the game is misery porn and that that is bad whatever

 

I have no issues with bleak or even nihilistic media. So, I'll let you know if the naysayers are just squeamish or if the story is legitimately questionable.

 

I seriously doubt a single person here WANTS that game, or any game, to be bad.

Plenty of us shit post and joke around, but in the end, wasting our time playing terrible games is not on our to do list.

I just think making statements like "revenge/hate takes over the best of us" and such in the high and mighty way the game and developers present it just doesn't sit well with me. The game presents itself as the highest form of video game art and a masterpiece and that kind of narcissism or whatever always rubs me the wrong way.

I have no doubt there are amazing parts of the game, they have incredibly talented writers, actors, artists, etc, but so much of it feels like a gaming community circle jerk.

Kallie Plagge had some valid criticisms in her reviews that I feel others just sweep under the rug. Alanah Pearce also talked about how she doesn't think it's a masterpiece.

But you're right, I haven't played it. I will eventually. Maybe.

I bookmarked that one article Moose posted about that a while back, while there were games mentioned that I still enjoy I agreed with a lot of what the article was trying to say and agree that it annoys me when the above happens, and am already annoyed by the convos I'ma have with people outside of this site about that style of game haha

The reviewer said that violence was the only thing in the game that they put any weight into and how it's the catalyst for all the problems and character arcs and it's dumb because we should be better as human beings

 

I mean this first paragraph is pretty presumptive if you haven’t played it

I almost was gonna ask if you were talking about 1 before I got to the end of your comment

 

People talking about reservations they have concerning an upcoming game is not “wanting it to be bad”. Like I don’t understand where this idea comes from that when someone says something that isn’t just blind hype about an upcoming game, that person is just “hating” or “wants the game to fail”. It’s bizarre. We’re all adults here, the hostility toward people who haven’t fallen in line on the hype train is kind of childish imo.

Nah. Considering ALL the reviews talk about those themes and how the developers themselves say the game is about hate, I think it's a super safe assumption.

 

Listened to podcast unlocked this morning and they basically confirmed a hybrid version of Cyberpunk for Xbox Series X at launch that will take some advantage of the hardware

 

I don't like RDR or GTA much at all. The rest are all up there as some of the best of the gen but I think The Last of Us beats them all for sure.

 

Lmao this started because of people being dismissive of someone expressing how much they are enjoying this particular game, that to me comes across much more "childish" and much more of what I'm referring to. And yes people absolutely do want games to be bad. They'll be like "oh this game is being made in [style x] and I don't like [style x] so I want it to fail so that we get less games in [style x] in the future". It happens frequently including on this site. People wanna see more of what they're comfortable with and less of what they're not comfortable with.

 

Also if you want to know what Maddy’s review says about the game, it’s probably best to actually read the thing instead of relying on a secondhand summary here.

 

ok likely - but games and movies have been misunderstood before

and tbh hate as a theme isnt out of bounds. it’s esp never gonna not be relevant.
