I’m whatever on this version of Venom just solely because I like the Tom Hardy version so much but that version wouldn’t make sense in this kind of game.

 

Anyway, without spoiling the game, I would argue this iteration of Venom keeps the personal angle while also presenting a credible world threat.

It's also conflating multiple characters and their respective attitudes toward Peter, so I would also argue it's not showing a lack of understanding of Venom, but an understanding that this character is not just Venom.

And one scene in particular is very reminiscent of a scene from the comics and the personal danger Venom reflects.

 

Just finished the part in Spider-Man 2 where I play as Venom and I’m so glad that wasn’t spoiled for me.

 

I think its fair to say that the character of Venom has evolved a lot since the first iteration. I am speaking from the versions of the character that I have seen and what I think are the aspects that make him interesting/ unique. I dont think the 'Venom as an alien invader' angle is interesting in the least.

 

Given that this is a Sony product, I really expected you to be on my side on this one.

 

And that's fine. Not liking the direction they took is absolutely okay, but I think saying that they don't understand the character as a result is a bit spurious considering your understanding is based upon an adaptation itself.

 

I have had nothing but praise for the new Spider-Man and Insomniac’s handling it. Now if we are talking Sony proper then that is a discussion for another day. It is unfortunate that Insomniac is under their umbrella but Insomniac is a good developer regardless.

 

Continuing the superhero trend, my kids and I are watching Blue Beetle tonight.

one of my only complaints is honestly some of these boss fights kinda suck because they will do multiple phases and nothing changes between them besides maybe faster or stuff. The scream fight suckeddd

Let's just make up tall tales about CobraKidJon. Like how he got his name from that time he tried to hold up a liquor store with a snake gun, AKA a snake tied to a NERF SharpFire.

I’m all for it. I foresee them getting dense just like the Marvel movies.

 

This is cool and further expands on how dense this is about to get.

One thing I really appreciated about SM2 is how tight and strong the game is thematically, specifically the idea of second chances. Between the idea that many of the villains are/have been reformed, the stated idea that Spider-Man’s belief that people can be better, and that being at the core of what makes Black Suit Peter different was all really well done and is something games like this often don’t spend too much time/effort.

 

One thing I absolutely give Insomniac credit for is having the balls to kill off half the Sinister Six and Shocker. Also love that of all people, they let Herman not go out like a chump.

i don't think i'd really mind playing as MJ and Miles in Spider-Man 1 if they weren't always stealth missions.
like, i gotta be stealthy and avoid detection but without any of the abilities that let me really maintain that stealth?
