I played Alan Wake 1 and DLC. Do I need to play American Nightmare? Is it referenced in 2?

    hate my favorite band

I can’t answer if it’s referenced since I haven’t even purchased it yet, but when I looked into this myself the other day, Remedy said they made 2 to mostly be a standalone experience. They do highly recommend playing everything including Control’s DLC because it adds to the lore and might help you understand stuff more

Kind of. There's a concept introduced in American Nightmare that's expanded upon in the Control DLC. I don't know if I'd consider it as essential as the Control DLC, but it's not that long and the combat's improved from the original so it's definitely worth checking out.

Just noticed you said you've played the DLC for the original game. I haven't but apparently the concept I'm thinking of is in the original DLC.

Man, the portal fight with Miles was sick. The joint takedowns were such an awesome touch.

They’re known in gaming circles for scoring Max Payne 3, GTA Online and contributing to the soundtracks of Cyberpunk and ULTRAKILL.

a good song of theirs to get a feel for their sound is STONEFIST.

    Gamer's Log, Oct 28:

beat Blasphemous 2 a few days ago (after taking a break for a few weeks) I managed to get through the final boss pretty quickly

the ending was... incredibly anticlimactic and kinda disappointing tbh. idk if there's a diff True ending for 100% completion or some other metric like the first, but even the "bad" ending in the first felt more satisfying
i feel like the plot was a bit unclear, outside of being kind of a retread of the first (your basic "Attack & Dethrone God" type deal)

It was still a fantastic game overall, i like a lot of the little changes throughout (even if the bosses seemed a bit easier & less memorable)

I am now diving more into Spider-Man so i can go and get to Miles Morales
(& i'm also still going through Sea of Stars too)

Epic end to SM2. Did a great job of mixing elements of all the big Venom/Blacksuit/Kraven storylines into a unique narrative. Can’t wait for DLC and SM3 now.

Played some of The Finals beta.

it seems ok. Kind of fun. But it’s somewhat janky and has some things to tweak

Finished SM2 today. Loved it. They have done such a fantastic job weaving all these stories together and creating emotional impacts on big moments. Love the teases for DLC/SM3. Lot of potential in the future.

Imo, what makes venom interesting is that he is a person who Peter treats genuinely poorly both as himself and as spiderman, who then becomes way more powerful than Spiderman and learns everything about him, then uses those powers to terrorize him. And Spidey needs to deal with this new threat that is better than him in every way while knowing that he kind of deserves it. Venom should be mostly just a threat to Spiderman, not to the city.

This version has really removed all the humanity from venom by making his entire motivation based around the symbiote. He's a monster instead of a person.

    Spider-Man 2 spoilers obviously:

I really didn’t expect the miles and Peter fight but that was crazy plus Kraven straight up getting murdered by Venom was wild.

this is also in regards to Spider-Man 2 but I wouldn’t say as much as a spoiler as my last post but I wonder if the spider bots side mission means we might get some spider-verse dlc

God forbid Insomniac have the creative freedom to design their own version of Venom and his relation to Peter.

    But that's inaccurate.

The original Venom, Eddie Brock, had absolutely nothing to do with Peter Parker or Spider-Man beyond a tenuous connection through the Sin Eater case.

Eddie brought in a guy who claimed to be the Sin Eater and based his news article around this fact in his desire to get a scoop and be recognized, but then Spider-Man took down the real Sin Eater and Eddie's guy was revealed to be a compulsive confessor.

This led Eddie's life to spiral and he went to the fated church at the same time Peter tried to get rid of the symbiote, and we all know what happened next.

But the point is Eddie then blamed all his problems on Peter and Spider-Man despite Peter legitimately having no blame or even knowledge of Eddie's situation.

That's what made Venom a psychopath. He was taking all his frustration and rage out on what was basically an innocent person because he was unable to accept his failure as his own.
