I can safely say I finally learned how to actually explore the map now in Doom 2016. I managed to find a few secret areas and the way they hide them is so damn clever. I also picked up a bunch of upgrades. I am now starting to really understand it.

 

FWIW, that's the same word as the latter half of "banshee" (and is pronounced the same). Sí or sith/sidhe usually means "fairy" or "fairy mound." (Also the origin of the latter half of "Aes Sedai," interestingly, but that's for another subforum.)

 

Right, but it's not spelled the same, which is what always throws me about language, that some combinations of letters I'd expect to sound a certain way, don't.

Mirage is right where I thought it’d be and I’m glad, if it got high marks for an undeniable step back for the franchise I’d be pretty pissed

I’m conflicted because I loved the RPG Assassin’s Creeds but they were way too over saturated and way too big. It was overwhelming in a bad way. Gameplay wise they rule. If they could just condense that experience down into a tighter experience I’d be all in.

Definitely intrigued about a more traditional AC and will eventually get around to playing it.

 

I didn’t find Valhalla too big because there was no level gating to stop you from doing the main quest unless you go fuck with shallow side content to level up like in origins and odyssey. All the stuff people call bloat is, ultimately, optional content. You can b-line the main story in Valhalla in 40-50 hours without feeling the need to do anything else. For how big and epic the story and setting is I think it was more than fitting and in my opinion the final 10 or so hours of the story were thrilling as fuck.

 

I haven’t played Valhalla but I thought the immensity of Odyssey was a strength too

AC Origins was good, Odyssey was fantastic and Valhalla just kind of exists.

Mirage seems fun, but goddamn do I want them to choose more interesting locales.

 

I played a lot of 5. There is SO much to the game and there’s a ton of replayability. Good tactical JRPG with a meh story.

 

Yeah, some of the older ones were better, but there's so much content

Cliche anime romance tropes are the best.

EDIT: Adding additional thoughts. This scene is one example of why I'm glad the Japanese voice acting is present.

The English translation is far too wordy and clumsy IMO and the Japanese, even without a word-to-word translation, is way more succinct and gets the point across through the tone way better than through the words themselves.

 

Devolver is the best.
