Player's Log: Trails In The Sky SC.

100% complete, including the chest achievement, which I managed to get all on my own, no unlocking necessary. I was worried at one point because the number of chests on the Steam counter wasn't lining up with the number I had left, but I guess it wasn't a concern.

Pet peeve: the final battles take place in a tower that you have to exit and travel across multiple elevators if you want to change your party members, which you do because some of them have unique and story-related dialogue with particular bosses, so you're having to go back and forth, which is really fucking annoying. You know what would have prevented this? Not having to swap out your party for story segments. Crazy notion, I know.

Love how it ended though. Estelle x Joshua forever.

Now, I'm going to start Trails In The Sky the 3rd, which I've heard and read a lot about, and I understand it's very different from the other two games, shifting focus to more minor characters from the previous games and acting more like an epilogue than a new adventure.

It also I guess takes place in one dungeon and uses "doors" to travel to different points in history that both wrap up loose threads and start unraveling new ones for future games.

It sounds like an interesting design. I'm eager to see how it plays out in practice.

As before, using a trainer, and so to get all the achievements, I'm going to play on Nightmare Mode, which I imagine won't be much of a nightmare, since I'm cheating.

Dumb achievement alert: Apparently toward the end of the game you can get an item or something by having either fled from 300 battles or won 300 battles without fleeing. You cannot do both, and both earn achievements.

And because you can't do both in one run, and because that's a fucking dumb achievement, I will probably just go for the winning 300 battles and use Steam Achievement Manager to pop the other one, cause it's not a question of whether I could get it, it's just a lot of fucking trouble to go through to get it that I don't have time for. Sue me.

I know Mortal Kombat is extremely violent and gorey, but a lot of moments in the story mode are so wholesome.

Moving right along. I actually skipped the 3rd one (no easy way for me to play it outside of Steam) but here's hoping you enjoy it!

3rd provides a lot of lore and setup but is the least fun gameplay wise. It’s more visual novel than anything else

Interesting. Well, seeing as how I'm clearly not in this for the combat (see: Cheater Cheater Pumpkin Eater), this might actually be right up my alley.

Haha it’s your gaming experience I don’t see anything wrong with what you’re doing.

I did wish some cut scenes were shorter tho. Some are like really long which I never felt from any of the other games.

Posted in the fromsoft thread as well but I’ve really gotten going on bloodborne after just fiddling around some months ago. Started completely over and made it past cleric beast and got a few father gascoigne attempts in on my first session which is way more than I was able to do last time I tried to play. I love the feel of combat but man is it punishing if you botch a parry. One thing I appreciate fromsoft doing in these games is making their first level anything but a pushover, it’s not a tutorial zone it’s a huge winding maze with mobs that will fuck your shit up on sight if you aren’t careful. tutorial zone by way of brutal punishment “YOU GON LEARN TODAY” type beat

I knew this was going to happen, but I've lost steam on BG3. I think it's the enormity of the final act. I need a day off work to sink my teeth into it. With so much going on, and so many quest streams interacting, I can't bring myself to play for the limited amount of time a day I have as it seems futile. I need to dedicate a binge session to it to make some progress. I still absolutely love it, and am astounded with every bit I play at the amount of stuff in it and for the most part, the amount of polish and quality.

But right around the corner now is Phantom Liberty! So so excited for that! I wanted BG3 done as I want to start cyberpunk from the beginning and do another whole run with the DLC included wherever it falls into the story.

I think you have to reach a certain point in the game to access the DLC, don't you? I mean, it's not standalone.

According to reddit, and I don't know if this is true, there was a screenshot of the loading screen and it basically offered an 'upgraded ready to enter DLC character' so you could skip whatever it takes to get to that point. I don't know if that's dependent on having finished the game at least once or what. I can't find the screenshot but it said something like 'Enter Game at DLC point with appropriate level character' or 'Start journey from beginning',
