Player's Log: Ken Follett's The Pillars Of The Earth. 100% complete.

What a beautiful end to the story. It's happy enough to hang your hat on, although there's still some ominous implications about how it ends.

Anyway, thus ends my Daedelic run, and I'm going to start a Sekai Project run.

The first game I'm going to choose is an old-school style JRPG called Machina Of The Planet Tree: Planet Ruler.

Idk I’m doing my hardest but I’m having a hard time getting into GoW ragnarok. It’s just so samey and the screen is so cluttered.

I had a really hard to with GoW 2018 for the same reasons. I pushed through it but I could see how the genre is not for everyone.

I finished the main story but I never finished all the collectibles and Valkyrie.

    I’m a bad true gamer.

Fun fact: This was one of the first games I ever purchased on Steam, and I've still never finished it. In fact, I'm currently farther in the game than I've ever been.

It was made in RPG Maker VX a billion years ago, and it shows, as it's both a very old school RPG and the backgrounds in combat are very clearly generic. It does get credit for having original designs for the characters though.

The mechanics are mostly standard JRPG fare. Instead of getting items from chests, you extract multiple items from an Extraction Point, which reset once you sleep at an Inn. And the combat system revolves around you having a certain number of action points to make moves, like using items, spells, and stringing together attacks to form combos.

It's got random battles and set save points, which I frankly dislike, but I'm putting up with it for now.

Anyway, the plot so far is pretty generic RPG stuff: normal rough exterior guy meets a mysterious plucky girl who has ties to ancient stuff and apparently there's some secret that the bad guys want to keep under wraps. That's about all I know so far.

No achievements in the game, so no 100% completion to worry about.

Players Log: Vampire Survivors is legit one of the most fun games I have ever played. It shouldn't be this fun but it's mindless and addicting. A must play. It really requires almost no skill. If you can move a joystick you can play it.

So Humble Monthly this month is made up of a lot of games I already own.

If anyone wants a Steam code for Kingdoms Of Amalur: Re-Reckoning, Shadow Tactics: Aiko's Choice, Unmetal, Eldest Souls, Raji: An Ancient Epic, or Morbid: The Seven Acolytes, let me know.

I'm still mostly loving it about 10 hours in but it is a bit samey, especially in terms of repeated enemy designs and I'm really not feeling the long ass Atreus sections.

Probably the least I've enjoyed a main God of War game so far.

i don’t know if the game is samey per se, but it’s too similar to 2018 for me.

I do have some more objective criticisms though, like the combat feeling kinda impact less after Elden ring, the very limited fov and thus difficulty dealing with enemies that surround you and sometimes even spawn behind you.

also I think the game looks super dated. I know it’s just an upscaled ps4 games with some bells and whistles, but it’s 80 euros with a full on ps5 SKU…

also not a huge fan of the art, the dessert/dwarf area I’m in looks kinda meh

I know the running joke on Twitter is that it's a GoW 2018 DLC.

That being said, I am hoping for a holiday discount as I enjoy the franchise and love a good hack n' slash.

That tracks because while I love the idea of DLC I’m usually checked out by the time it drops and that’s exactly how I feel about this game. Sad.

I mean, no one was saying similar things about TLOU2 because there was such apparent progression between the two games, whereas here … I just don’t see it.

I feel like this game is pretty samey so far compared to the older God of Wars, even more so after the 2018 game as a lot of this is quite similar.

I don't feel like Elden Ring has really changed my opinion on the combat in this though and still think it feels great to play as Kratos, Atreus less so. Have had no real issues with the fov at all, the markers for enemies off screen work fine.

Art/visuals wise I still think it looks fantastic. Granted I haven't played many games since the last one but I haven't seen any games that make this look dated visually to me. Again my only real complaint with the locations so far is that they all feel so similar to stuff we've already seen in the 2018 game. I'm hoping the second half will be more interesting/unique.
