Octopath traveler 2. Easily. BG3, Final Fantasy XVI and tears of the kingdom (despite never actually beating it, I still put 80 hours in) are up there tho.


However I played a lot more non 2023 games and among those it’s really hard to say since I played a lot of “classics.” Here’s a list of games I played that floored me from previous years: triangle strategy, xenoblade chronicles 3, dragon quest xi, super Mario bros 3 and super Mario world, ratchet and clank rift apart, and god of war ragnarok. Triangle Strategy may take the “best game I played from a previous year” title. I guess I’m a simp for team asano RPGs. I gotta get to live a live soon. And finish bravely default 2.

Chained Echoes edges out Sea of Stars for me by a little bit but both are brilliant throw backs that feel super fresh

 

It'll never not be mind blowing how publications get company memos before they even hit my Outlook inbox lmaooo

I looked up general opinions and most people think chained echoes is a good bit better. I’ve got that on my deck too whereas sea of stars I’d play through ps plus and I’m more inclined to play games like this on a handheld

Definitely play both games when you find the time. Chained echoes was probably my game of the year, and I’m currently like 60% of the way through sea of stars and it’s right up there for me too. So good
