I've just accepted I will not play Dragon Age this year, too much to do and too little time

Hopefully I can visit it in 2025 or something

 

Dream team did alright too if I remember correctly. People think Veilguard is handholdy go play dream team. Every battle is a tutorial for the first 10 hours

 

On a similar note I’m on the final chapter of thousand year door. It has been such an excellent experience, can’t remember the last time a game made me laugh out loud multiple times. Super sharp writing.

 

I do hope the companion quests become more varied as I continue because so far all 7 companions first part of their individual chains has been nearly identical

the dialogue is so vanilla, like Harding will say something to the effect of “thanks for affirming my new powers, I’m scared but it’s exiting” then a massive pop up will come up summarizing the exact same thing. Also Bellara is just so bland and annoying. Neve and Lucanis are the interesting ones thus far.

 

Hmm well all I've done is Lucanis first when I had to find the missing spy but I didn't hate it necessarily. I actually don't mind the combat and the exploration aspect hasn't been off-putting yet so I guess I'll see once I do another companions. I DID find this extremely OP weapon that causes a shit ton of bleed damage so I've been having fun jumping in and out of fights and watching does bleed to death haha.

Re: the giant pop-up of Harding, did you mean Varric doing a voiceover of what we just witnessed? I took it as him reiterating the main point of the chapter kinda like a nudge nudge this will be important later so don't forget it.

 

i dont think that means the game thinks im 5, it just reiterated a story beat. you dont have to like the way they did it but the inflammatory language people use in their criticisms makes me roll my eyes a bit. its impossible to just think something is kinda lame, it either has to be egregiously bad or the best thing ever. sometimes things are just....things. i dunno. one little interaction doesnt point to the game treating me like a toddler.


someone on reddit said everyone's disappointed because they were expecting a godfather/shawshank level product from bioware and im just like, when in the fuck has bioware ever even approached something on that level in their games? what is the revisionist history surrounding this studio that's been going on? there isnt a bioware game under the sun that has award winning writing.

 

Yeah I was nowhere expecting something ala Larian/BG3 and have no idea why anyone would have expected something on those lines. Like I said before it could be she (it HAS been almost a decade since inquisition and BG3 is super recent) but I see the complaint from people who say they're rana since Jade Empire and I'm like......you definitely should have known what to expect lol. It's not different from early DA. It's the same as ME was minus the no Renegade option. I have no idea why people expected any different than what Bioware has given us in the past.

I saw someone else somewhere say they got taken out of the game when one companion uses the word "weird" and how it doesn't make sense to use that word and it's out of place and ruined their immersion.

Cmon now. Seriously?!

 

bioware games have largely been closest to cheesy 80's action movies when it comes to the writing. some notable exceptions here and there, more with specific quest lines than entire games though. bioware's been a cheesy ass studio. like remember this?

their games had marvel style writing before the mcu was a thing. i feel like im taking crazy pills

 

in ten years we'll get dragon age 5 and people will say it isnt real dragon age and that veilguard was peak. its the same cycle world of warcraft expansions take.

 

The positivity around Veilguard in here has made me want to pick it up eventually. Prob from a sale once I get some other games finished.

It baffles me too lol, no idea why people expected Bioware to do not-Bioware things.

 

From what I've seen of dialogue in Veilguard none of it is any worse than dialogue in GOTY favorite Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

That was a game that made me quit playing due to the clunkiness of the dialogue and how much it made me groan at times

for me it was the combat and difficulty tuning which made me lower the difficulty just to get through it. i still love the game but people have been using that as a damning condemnation of veilguard

 

nintendo life called brothership the best in the series so take that as you will too

 

I wanted to love it (and I did love the card game) but I just couldn't do it

I hope I embrace Veilguard more, I feel like I will just due to the fact that I won't have an OG game I naturally want to compare it to like I do subconsciously (or just consciously) with the 7 remakes (and just because it's a very different game at its core obviously)

 

i'm actually having a good time with ssktjl, i haven't done a lot of story missions yet but i did meet up with ivy and that was fun
