I’ve had it since March and at this point I couldn’t live without my Steam Deck.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

That’s a bummer. Knock on wood I personally haven’t had anything I played play like dog shit yet. Battery drains a bit quicker but overall nothing that’s made me mad but maybe I’m just not playing the right indies to crush the system lol

Also I am at a desk all day and it’s a lot nicer to be laying down playing a game at night after I put my daughter to sleep than it is to go to another desk to play a game

Docked mode can really suck for gaming but in handheld mode games like Spelunky 2, DBD, Subnautica, Mortal Sin, Halo MCC, Octopath 2 (just to name a few) run at a solid 60 if not 90.

    Play the Yakuza series

Yeah I’m running my SD fine for the most part. To be honest, running a consistent 40fps can sometimes feel like running a consistent 60fps on that thing

Love my steam deck and never had a problem with any game.

Fwiw I didn't mean for this to turn into "is Steam Deck good/bad" (but that's still a discussion about games so feel free! I love mine) I more meant just that @mescalineeyes and I prioritize very different things in our game playing experiences, and that both prioritizations are valid and it's cool that people can find all kinds of things to enjoy (or dislike) about games

Yeah I’m going on it to have a more powerful handheld experience that my Switch couldn’t give me… although who knows what they’re going to give us with the Switch 2 lmao

A great experience with Mario and Zelda and a flipphone quality experience with Pokemon

Pokemon really is where my line is drawn on performance. If I can run the game in better quality than Sword/Shield I'm happy. Sword/Shield or L:A quality I'm at least okay but annoyed. Around Scarlet/Violet quality or below and I hate it

Famitsu review says metaphor is 80 hours for main story and 100+ with side content.

Yeah like I said I'm super impressed. I had read some people saying it was slower than a Yakuza game but I'm actually really liking the detective angle and the varying gameplay.

  14. i've never been a stickler for quality performance, i haven't had a nintendo system since n64, and i've never had a handheld period, but i feel like nintendo titles don't really require much from the switch? by design those games just have different priorities than the huge aaa games on pc(/ps/xbox). not saying i hate nintendo, or that they're technologically insufficient, i initially played cult of the lamb on a switch and it played just fine. their exclusives are just not where my interests are. i get the steam deck not meeting your higher expectations but, like you said, games aren't exactly optimized with the steam deck in mind. if i were ever to get a handheld, it would either be the steam deck or something like the backbone

Yeah idk at this point in my life and current gaming career, a 80+ hour main story game is just very unappealing to me. I knew Metaphor would be a big JRPG but fuck man lol.

I support the length of Metaphor I just have to figure out if the story of Metaphor interests me enough because right now it doesn't but I haven't finished the demo yet

The only game in the last few years I have dumped 80+ hours into is Elden Ring and then again in the DLC. The games that can keep my attention for that long are few and far between.

I never even finished P5 lol that was insanely long too. They said this would be similar in length but I really didn't believe it haha. Hearing that though, I don't think I'll pick it up asap tho. Diablo 4 expac comes out in a couple of days and then Veilguard at the end of the month....combined with my other games I'm currently working on....yeah I don't have time for another 80+ game at this very moment.

Besides, if it truly goes the persona route we'll be getting metaphor: platinum version anyways and that'll tack on even MORE.

I looked through my Steam library while figuring out all the stuff I mentioned earlier and went to see what my most played game was thinking it was for SURE Phasmophobia. Nope. Elden Ring by far. Cannot believe how replayable that game is for me, I didn't expect that after my first playthrough at all

    oh word?

I actually finished persona 5 twice, once during the pandemic and the second time on my switch (somehow). I think I could fit metaphor in. Not gonna rush either so it’ll be fine for me

My last 2 LONG games....hmmm well XBC3 took 130 hours but I'd been playing off and on for a couple months and FF7Rebirth took 110 but I literally played that nonstop on its release and nothing else.

Fun fact: I managed to finish persona 3 reload just hours before rebirth came out and I believe spent 80 hours on rebirth. Still to finish some stuff on there but for the most part, I’ve beaten the main game.

for XBC3, if you wanna be real specific, I’ve spent 120 hours on it and that does include future redeemed

I currently play 2 MMOs and those take up massive (heh) amounts of time but I can dabble in long games and short games alike
