I haven't played an AC game since the first one came out. Just took advantage of the current sale on the PS Store and got Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla all together for like $55.

I still only have a PS4 so I am not going to play Mirage on that. I'll get that if I ever get a next gen.

 

Playing through more Outlaws and Kay Vess is gay as hell, love to see it

Yeah?!? I know we've got similar tastes so I like to hear that. I've been following it for the past couple months ever since it got announced it was being revamped and with today's announcement for PS5 I couldn't find any info or impressions :/ so thanks!

 

I put around 10 hours into the PC version before the 2 WoL updates but after the revamp. It’s very much WoW and Darksider 2’s love child. And the art is on point.

 

I even liked the old concept m, I'll try anything Joe Mad but the revamp is definitely something that caught my eye too. It really reminded me of WoW, Darksiders and Kingdoms of Amalur which is definitely a recipe for awesomeness. I see they're doing some kind of collab with Critical Role so if future updates are a possibility I'll dream of a Battle Chasers collab haha.

 

Finished the second Universe in Astro Bot. There are some worlds that will make you want to throw your controller because they are so frustrating but I got them.

Some games I have played recently:

Mega Man 7: It is really strange that this came after something like Mega Man X, which had significantly brought the series into the next generation, not just graphically but in terms of level design and fun. Video game reception depends so much on time and place; if you flip the release dates it becomes a better game, but since games are both art and software you run the risk of feeling quaint, especially since every new piece of hardware back then was a more substantive leap.

Halo 3: ODST: I wish more games were like this: fun, short little side games to expand on the main game. It is like a bottle episode of a TV show. Video game expectations are so much tied to the purchase price, so depending on when you get and play this the brevity of the story and the relative lack of new things becomes more or less of an issue. While the main story is always verging on becoming too silly, the plight of these soldiers is a welcome diversion.

Final Fantasy VII: This will probably always be my default answer for favorite game of all time; it introduced me to a complexity of story that I could not have begun to imagine when I rented it from Hollywood Video 27 years ago. It is a weird experience playing it today, though; the character models look decent enough but the backgrounds are so blurry and unappealing. The game literally came with a toggle to tell you where exits were back when it came out, so I can't imagine a modern player knowing where to go on such a blurry background without having played it twenty times. The drastic changes to the remake trilogy keeps this one being vital, but modern audiences would not give this much time.

Borderlands: Such an unappealing gameplay loop. After the 12th run from a redneck to a depot, having to shoot the giant rat monsters over and over, you realize that maybe it might be as bad as the movie.

One of the most difficult completions I’ve ever done. Fuck Firefight

 

The game would literally start locking up in the later stages because there was so much shit on the screen. The team I completed it with had to attempt the achievement 4 times. BTW it takes an average of 6 hours to get that one achievement. The game is so underrated in the Halo universe. I miss old Bungie...

 

Forgot this was yesterday. Best FF IMO fight me.

Final Fantasy VIII is a noticeable step down from the classic run of VI to X (and Tactics). It is still a good game compared to most other franchises, though.

 

Not sure how I missed it, but I just discovered Flashpoint Archive this weekend. So I’ve been playing a lot of old flash and shockwave games the last few days.

 

The writing for the second Borderlands is quite good, but no, the gameplay loop does not get much better

 

There was a time and a place for Borderlands' humor and that was Hey Ash Whatcha Playin
