Man, these challenges were something else. A real variety. Some are just fun like having you use prototype weapons or just beating bosses over again, others are like "don't kill the hostages" or "finish with only this much ammo" and are pretty difficult.

I only finished them because I'm cheating, so I don't know how far I'd really get if I was actually playing for realsies. Probably some I could finish, but most I'd fail.

Anyway, the only achievements I have left from RetroAchievements are ones where I finish each level using only the starting weapon, which is kind of insane, but I can do it because again: cheating. I clearly don't look at these achievements as actually being achievements since I'm not getting them legitimately, but it's more like research purposes for me, and to also feel like I completed something.

I'll say, I love the idea of RetroAchievements and I'm glad it exists. It's cool that some people are actually making legit achievements for older games via emulation. So far most of the achievements I've seen are fairly reasonable and feel like ones you'd see normally from a publisher. It's a great way to augment these old titles.

The only thing that sucks is that you have to have the specific official ROM for the achievements to work. Example: people have been making colorized versions of old Game Boy games, which I have a few of, but those aren't the official ROMs, so I can't get achievements in say, Wario Land or Kirby's Dream Land 2 unless I play through the standard ROM to get the achievements and play the colorized ones for funsies.

It's not much of a gripe since I understand the hard work people put in to get these achievements made in the first place. Trying to figure out the triggers to make them legitimately pop can't be easy, and it's incredible that people took on the challenge.

At about the 5 hour mark in Pentiment, this is definitely more engaging than I thought it'd be, also the children in this game are very cute and I'm catching "it'd be nice to be a dad" feelings, send help.

 

Also started Toem since it's leaving game pass in a few weeks and it's a really nice vibe with good tunes so far.

 

ghostrunner 2 is a lot of fun

 

Never played it and own it on my PS5, but something in my brain is telling me to get it on Steam

 

Finished Scorn. What a weird ass game, very gory and graphically cool looking but don’t know if I’d recommend it.

 

You watched the No Clip doc yet? Making of that game is so interesting.
