To be fair Hades 2 is an outlier. Most early access games are clearly that.

Even then you could’ve paid money to experience act 1 of Baldurs gate 3 years before the game dropped which is just a weird thing to me. Just a weird practice but devs seem to love it and you can’t argue with the results when it works out

It's the kind of thing that I think makes more sense on the developer's end than on the player's end.

Dragon Age: Inquisition and its DLC is on sale for $4, so I got it. It looks like The Witcher.

It took me a bit to get the hang of it, the combat is floaty but I like it, the wall running is a cool mechanic.

I’m a broken record at this point but: GOAT fantasy RPG of the last gen besides maybe the Witcher 3 but it’s extremely close for me. It’s a wildly different game in a lot of respects and to have the best time you need to really lean into the companion dialogue and relationships because some of the best quests in the game are only available by friending your companions. There is some collectathon map clearing stuff in every zone but I never found it bothersome and the zones are varied and big enough to make exploration fun regardless, and the rewards for some of the items you collect are well worth going after them like the shards. I’ve played it all the way through three times and have made five saves total and am thinking about a sixth where I play a female elf so I can romance Solas and catch more of his back story going into dreadwolf. dragon age games have some of the most in depth and well thought out lore and world building in the industry (pillars of eternity comes extremely close but DA is like early Warcraft universe stuff which I’m also obsessed with) I’ve got a book of short stories in the universe that I love (I’ve only read three of them so far out of I think 8-10). Anyway I’m rambling like a fan boy but I hope you enjoy it and if things seem confusing or overwhelming just let it happen you’re gonna miss stuff but I kind of found it fun going back to the first two games after inquisition and being like holy shit all of this makes so much sense now

    Player's Log

Finished three games in the Rusty Lake series: Hotel, Roots, and the Cube Escape Collection.

Games remaining: Rusty Lake Paradise, Cube Escape: Paradox, The White Door, Samsara Room, The Past Within, and Underground Blossom. A couple of those I'd finished previously, but I'll replay them since I'm doing the whole series.

Plotwise, it's still incredibly mind-fucking and hard to follow with all the ominous occult occurrences (say that five times fast) and full-on Twin Peaks vibes. I mean, obvious Twin Peaks vibes. Two of the most prominent characters are named Dale and Laura, for fuck's sake.

Finished the Dave the Diver story. I’d give the game a solid 4.5/5. The gameplay loop and story was entertaining to and enough to keep me interested. Also really liked that they integrated multiple classic gameplay elements for the story beats and boss fights. The ending may be indicative of the DLC they released but there seems to be an opening for another game too.

Played Chants of Sennaar over the weekend after it popped on on Game Pass

Felt like my experience it matched a lot of what I've heard from others. Really fun game with a novel concept, I just wish they did the validation for knowing words a bit differently. Were a few times where I wouldn't actually know what a word was but then the notebook pops up with a picture and I'm like "oh it probably means that" which feels like cheating the system a bit.

Also the last couple of levels were a bit disappointing (especially the last one) due to the over reliance on the dual translations rather than using context clues to figure out what stuff means. Kinda wish they had made it so you couldn't actually figure out an entire language in a level you had to go find more of those clues in future levels but this time work backwards.

Also the stealth/timing bits weren't much fun but fortunately were never too hard and there wasn't too many of them

But still a very fun playthrough. Doesn't quite hit the deductive puzzling highs of Return of the Obra Dinn but still certainly worth playing.
