concept of this is really cool

 

I'd never turn down a free game.

 

Player's Log: Boundless Trails.

I finished Act 2. This game feels very breezy, although I imagine part of that is the trainer I'm using to get infinite health and infinite money, but I think even without those things, the game's levels feel very fast-paced so far, with only a couple levels standing out as being fairly large, with gimmicks.

I'm kind of wondering how long this game is compared to the other Trails games. It came out after the Crossbell games, so it wasn't like Falcom wasn't making incredibly lengthy RPGs at that point, but then again, being an action-RPG and styled the way it is probably changes a lot of expectations.

The story is also lacking the complexity so far of other Trails games, which is another thing that kind of makes me doubt how canon it is to the main story. Frankly I haven't heard anything yet that would be worth connecting, the story so far feels very simple. Maybe that will change as I progress.

These sound like criticisms, and I guess they are, but after the lengthy and involved plotlines of the Cold Steel games, it's kind of nice to play something with a bog standard story only there to give a reason for exploring some areas and bashing some monsters. And I'm kind of eager to play something else after being immersed in RPGs since... (checks notes)... August of last year.

The other thing about this game I haven't touched on yet is how interesting the art style looks. It's after Crossbell but before Cold Steel, so this is kind of bridging the gap. It's 3D, but feels 2D in execution, and the art direction kind of looks almost akin to Wind Waker, except not as cartoony but still sort of cartoony? It's hard to explain. Gives it a nice appeal though.

So I decided to take a break from DD2 and resume my Yakuza journey. Started up Yakuza 3. OH BOY was it like taking a step back in time! Sheesh I thought the transition from 0 to the two Kiwami games were apparent.....the transition from Kiwami 2 to 3 had me like.......this is an OLD game lol. The UI is bad. The fonts.

And don't even get me started on the story......babysitter Kiryu? I can count on one hand the number of fights I got into by chapter 4 or 5. I can only imagine the reception back then. I'll stick it out though, I know once it WANTS to get good it will, it's already shown promise with Daigo. So was Yakuza 4 and 5 as old-feeling as 3? Or were they looking like the two Kiwamis.

 

Played some Witcher 3 on the Switch last night… how they managed to get that game on there is some kind of miracle

 

Looking back at it now, Yakuza 3 is still a great game. It definitely has some glaring flaws, it’s called Blockuza for a reason, but the story actually makes up for it.

It was nice to see a more human side to Kiryu, even if it did come at the expense of there being more combat. Yakuza 4 is worse than Yakuza 3 in my opinion so be prepared for that. It has more variety gameplay wise but that game is a MESS.

 

Lolololol NOOOOOO. Oh well, at least these are relatively short games. I'm in it for the relationships and characters and I'm not skipping any game, I want the FULL picture heh.

As far as Blockiza, I definitely see it. I started noticing it super early especially in the Majima but it wasn't until the Rikiya fight when you first get to Okinawa where I was like.....what is this?!? Oh welllll I put it on Easy mode so hopefully I can breeze through it anyways and just get to the story bits. It IS nice to have a new location though, it beat having to do the same old locales from the first games.

 

Yeah, I basically skipped a lot of Yakuza 4 because I wasn’t really feeling it as much as I was hoping. There’s still some cool moments to it but it definitely felt even more disjointed than a usual Yakuza game feels lol

 

Stellar blade demo was incredibly fun, was really getting the hang of the flow by that last boss. Perfect mix of souls like difficulty and DMC hack and slash. Dont think I can play this around my wife tho. Was getting weird looks the whole time and had to assure her that Im just here for the gameplay and its not my fault the devs are horny fuckers

 

Against the Storm is so dope. I'm only at the beginning but so far while there is a lot to keep track of it's not overwhelming because you're able to pause while you look over the map and plan your course of action(s).

This may have been addressed, but I tried every fix I could find and just had to replace it. I was struggling on Hotline Miami and realized it was drift moving the character without input. It got so bad I couldn't even scroll through menu's without it selecting all the way to the left. I tried all the usual fixes from searching and just got a new controller. Mine failed after about 15 months.

 

ugh damn that sucks. Yeah, I ordered the WD-40 electrical cleaner stuff that someone mentioned and it is coming tomorrow. Hopefully that works but if not I will probably be in the same boat.
