I've almost completed a run in Balatra, certain joker combinations can really get you towards breaking the game.

I've managed to win with the first 4 decks in Balatro so far after around 10 hours give or take, but I put like 15 hours into the Demo so I'm relatively familiar with about a third of the Jokers. game goes so crazy, I can't stop playing and thinking about insane combos that the game will never give me lol

 

I don't really know poker all too well, but Balatro sounds fun. I may have to buy it tonight...

I’ve been thinking the same thing but I was watching a little bit of a streamer play and couldn’t follow it at all because I don’t know what a “blind” is lol. For people that have played, is there a decent tutorial or does it expect you to have some base level poker knowledge going in?

 

The blind is just the score you have to beat that round. In a round you have (usually 3) hands to beat the score, and you can see what hands score what by checking a box on the bottom left.

It's pretty simple even if you don't know poker, hand size is 8 and you can discard up to 5 cards on a turn.

If you ever fail to beat a blind the run ends.

That's the very simple gist of it before the usual deck building shenanigans come into play

 

You really just need to be familiar with poker hands

 

The game has a good tutorial at the start to get you familiar with the mechanics.

 

I bought it, excited to check it out tonight.

And then Pacific Drive tomorrow!

You don't even really need to be that familiar with poker hands imo, you'll figure it out just by pressing cards in different combinations, since the game tells you what hand is gonna score.

 

I really liked Luck Be A Landlord but this is much easier to pick up and you have way more control.

 

There's no real element of gambling, at least that I've seen so far, so it feels closer to a math puzzle featuring a deck of cards than actual poker to me.

I really wanna get home and play this but it's gym day so I won't be on until midnight at the earliest, womp womp

 

Yeah but i think it would be worth the time to study the 10 different poker hands or just have it visible as a reference. Just trying different combos endlessly sounds like not the best time haha.

 

Have Pacific Drive downloaded and ready to go when it hits 9 lol

 

Yeah this is my main concern and wanting to not waste my money.

There is a company I found I can pay for some extra RAM, but other than Alienware, none of them advertise any abilities to add-on.

It is called Digital Storm, I was looking at the ultimate and just upping it to 64 GB to just not have to worry about it until my son is a bit older and I can get some home gaming in again.

Playing Balatro and just scored 2,860 on a straight. I’m sold.

 

Also for anyone on the fence: there is a visual guide you can quickly pull up in game to see the various poker hands. They’re very simple and obvious (cards in sequential order, pairs, two different pairs, etc.)

 

Steam wouldn’t let me pre-download it but I probably won’t be able to play until the weekend anyway

 

Skill Up’s review of Pacific Drive piqued my interest but I’ll wait for a sale since I tend to bounce off survival games pretty quickly.
