Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, and FFVII or VI should be top 3 imo. Love seeing Earthbound and SO:2 on there though!

 

Both Like A Dragon turn based games should be on there

Also Dark Souls is a JRPG and should be on the list

If KH2 counts Dark Souls counts for sure

Agreed.......I'm still playing IW but I think LaD7 story was MUCH better, although IW *did* improve in everything else.

It's a fine list, but where the fuck is LUNAR?

 

Trails in the Sky (FC I'm presuming, based on skimming the video) is a fantastic game but crazy they went with that over SC. SC is just an absolutely monster game, my 2nd most played Trails game at 80 hours (only 3 hours behind Cold Steel 3! (although I will caveat that I haven't finished CS4 or beyond yet)), improves basically every system FC had, and ties a beautiful bow on the FC story. Maybe they combined them for the slot or something (they were originally meant to be one game after all, iirc), or they were worried people might start with SC? but if we're just going on raw game, SC should be the pick for Trails I think.

also think Gold/Silver for Pokémon is very "based on the mythos about it" as opposed to the actual games themselves, otherwise surely we go HeartGold/SoulSilver? Pokémon is just kind of one of those series that I think just continuously improved until the 3DS era onwards though, so I'd probably have picked Black/White personally.

FF7 or 9 are games I ~probably~ like more than 10, but I do think 10 is the ultimate "older" FF game at this point, so fair play. Would have been happy with any of the 3.

Also, Eternal Sonata would have been a better Xbox 360 JRPG than Lost Odyssey.

 

I think Lost Age is much better than the first Golden Sun since it's where the majority of the plot happens.

Shout out to Breath Of Fire III tho, a very underrated choice.

 

I like Metaphor a lot. Putting it in there is ridiculous imo. Also DQXI should be in the top 5 and I agree with P5 being where it is. Probably my favorite JRPG

 

I'm the resident Octopath fanboy and yeah that should not be anywhere close to its ranking. Probably shouldn't even be on the list. Same with Live A Live and Bravely Default

 

Put DQXI a little higher imo, it’s like the platonic ideal of JRPGs

 

My hot take is that Fantasy Life should be on that list

Also, I actually favor Grandia 1 over 2.

 

Also technically not an RPG but shout out to Alundra.

 

Arc The Lad 2 is so good.

 

And Brave Fencer Musashi. And Threads Of Fate.

Frankly the whole PSX RPG library is fucking tippy top.

Parasite Eve, Vagrant Story, Xenogears, the Wild Arms games, just inject it all into my veins.

 

Bought Brave Fencer Musashi when it came out to get that FFVIII demo. Would love to see a Vagrant Story remaster, maybe more than FFT at this point.
