finished act 1 of expeditions 33. I have to respect the hell out of the writers willingness to take a big swing like that. I’m not sure how much I like it, but I respect it

 

The intro to expedition 33 might be the most engrossing video game into I've played story wise since the original last of us

I have to take the difficulty down on expedition 33. I just don’t think the dodge/parry timing feels right. Idk if there’s a discrepancy between animations and button inputs or what but it was just too frustrating to deal with

 

You have to starry parrying when the attack animation begins, not before it hits you. It’s usually accompanied by a sound cue.

(there’s plenty of items that incentivize eating the hits btw)

 

the sound cues seem ridiculously off to me for certain attacks

 

So what y'all are saying is I should abandon my habit of listening to loud music/podcasts while gaming while lowering volume of the game and actually pay attention to in-game audio.

 

I am not being judgmental at all but if you play Clair Obscur without listening to the sound/music of Clair Obscur you are a war criminal

I normally suck at these timing games but feel I've gotten the parry down pretty good so far and it's intuitive but I'm only working through act 1.

I think this is the best and most realistic voice acting I've seen in a game in forever and can't wait to see where the story goes.

I'm a little confused on some story beats so far like (and I'll spoiler tag and not really looking for answers unless I'm missing something obvious) but I don't understand why they were
confused that the first guy they encountered on the expedition was old? From dialogue, I thought the paintress has counted down from 100 so there are lots of years you could be born without the painters number overlapping with yours? Like 1-5 would mean you'd age to 60's and 70's without your number being called. 6 would overlap at 52. Lots of other numbers could work too, you could have been born when the paintress painted 94 and be 62 now. So I don't understand why old people are so shocking or rare unless I misunderstand the rules? They automatically assumed he survived the gommage but that's not necessarily true as the numbers just work in plenty of situations?

 

It’s their time to die when the age is hit. The age continues getting lower. So there shouldn't be anyone over the age of 33 now.

 

Yeah I've listened to the tracks posted here while waiting for my copy to arrive and I'm REALLY liking it heh. Interesting that there's audio cues to help with block/parry/jump though!

 

I honestly didn’t even know about the audio cues. I’ve just been hitting it when it looks like it’s about to hit and I’m usually pretty successful, which is honestly a miracle because I suck at games.

 

Yeah I've been watching animations, I need to listen closer. Might start playing with headphones

 

Maybe I’ve just been getting lucky. I’ll be paying more attention next time now.

 

I understood it as an EXACT number so I always assumed from the first trailer that people could have lived on just through arbitrary luck of birthyear. Basically, the paintress was just ensuring the newer generations got shorter lives. Makes sense though the way you clarified.
Would justify that they didn't just assume that the older guy must have been a baby that was taken on an early expedition.
