the most important change in the last couple of years has been sales on digital platforms rivaling that of brick and mortar stores. PSN deals throughout the year often are just as good as a Black Friday sale. a few years ago the deals always fucking suckeddddd. they’ve really lowered the cost of convenience.

 

Remember Xbox 360 arcade games? 200 or 400 gamerscore limit and those were like the only games that you could download haha.

ohhhh yeahhhh consoles vs pc. i'm sure pc players are laughing at this digital vs physical debate right now

 

Digital is of course hugely important these days but the ceiling is fast approaching and being raised very slowly (and in some regards getting lowered), that’s all I’m saying. Physical remains way, way too important to ditch and will for quite a while. Any pundit telling you otherwise lives in a bubble.

I could see Sony and MS releasing digital/streaming only SKUs of their next consoles, but they won’t ditch physical media entirely. The PS5 and the next Xbox will still have disc drives. Cutting them would completely abandon many important regional markets, piss off their retail partners, and greatly reduce software sales in general, and they know that.

I’ll still buy a console next gen with disc drive for 4K Blu-ray’s. That’s something I actually like having physical copy of haha.

Also copies shipped doesn’t paint a perfect picture of a games success anymore given the rise of micro transactions.

 

Yeah like some of those random Micrsoft exclusives that appear to come and go are actually continuing money makers

I really hope Ubisoft announce Splinter Cell at the game awards.... it’s definitely happening. They wouldn’t get Ironside just for a quick cameo in a bad Ghost Recon mission.
