As far as I know, including from members of this site, they are awesome. I don’t feel like putting in the work though.

 

Yeah doing some research it looks like it's possible to build one yourself, for a lot cheaper, it's tedious work though?

 

It takes me montgs to download a new OS for my Mac because I find it tedious so I’m a bad barometer

 

this is a winter project of mine, I keep putting it off. I plan on building one myself and getting a case off etsy or something. I already have one bluetuooth SNES controller from when I tried hacking my Apple TV to put an emulator on.

Damn I might look into that more. All I want is to play Medieval Total War without it crashing after a certain turn

I got myself one of these the other year and followed that guide (and the guide here First Installation - RetroPie Docs ). I found it pretty easy to do and the guides and youtube videos on it are really easy to follow. I'd say it probably took me something like 30 to 40 minutes to set up all in all. I do work in IT though so that may have helped with the time it took me, the guides are definitely easy enough to follow though, just make sure to not skip anything.

It's also handy having a usb keyboard and mouse to hand for the config (I used a little mini wireless one I picked up for for less than £10).

 

I put one together probably within a few hours. Not a lot of trial and error though as the tutorial was pretty straight forward and easy to follow. A lot of my time was just making sure I was doing things as accurately as possible given the tutorial I was using. It does help if you have some knowledge of the technologies being used to flash the OS and transfer data from one location to your RP device. But even if you don't, it's still doable within a couple of hours, IMO.

I just use OpenEmu on my MacBook and hook it up to the TV... allegedly that is

Also, I cannot wait for Pokemon Let’s Go. It won’t be anywhere near the best game of the year but I honestly think I’m going to have the most fun with it just based on nostalgia alone.

 

Was it as easy as the guides make it seem? Doesn’t work on a Mac though, right?

 

also super pumped for Let’s Go. the only Pokemon game my gf has ever played was Yellow way back in the day, but i managed to get her interested in Pokémon Go and now she is hooked on that and excited to see how the main games have evolved, so she is literally the exact target audience. my hope is she loves it so much that we’re gonna need a second Switch by the time the next core entry comes next year.

Doesn’t work on Mac sadly, but OpenEmu for Mac is pretty brilliant

 

it was super easy! it only took like 10 minutes. I have a PC though so I'm not sure about if it works on a Mac
