I don't think a game should have to be innovative to be considered "great". Days Gone may not offer anything particularly new, but everything it does offer is done really well.

Also, I've barely experienced any bugs in my time playing it, no more than any other game anyway.

 

RE2 and Sekiro are the two games I like more than Days Gone lol

 

I had a lot of fun with Rage 2. The campaign was waaaaay too short though.

 

Apex Legends and Mario Maker 2 are the only AAA games I have cared for so far, though I’m not sure what else came out in the last four weeks or so

 

But that same logic can be applied to DMC5...which is why it's great.

 

DMC5 was not good.

DMC5 plays like it was released in 2003... I don't think it does anything really well

 

Sekiro and RE2 are the only games released this year so far that I'd call great. I'm sure Fire Emblem will join them next month though

 

Days Gone is far from perfect but it's one of the most enjoyable games I've ever played.

 

You're right, it was excellent.

It's really strange to me that people complain about games that play like they came out years ago and then have no problem with literally all the other genres and games that do the exact same thing. So many shooters have just copied and pasted because breaking a working formula is something they don't want to mess with, etc. It's familiar to the audience and that's what they deem important.

Also with the amount of remasters and remakes nowadays, it's pretty amusing. "I don't want a game that plays like it came out in 2003" yet the community seems to love games like Crash Team Racing and Bloodstained which are both heavily relying on playing like older games.

I think that instead of saying "it plays like it came out in year X" changing that to something like "it feels clunky and unrefined like a game that hasn't learned from mistakes of past entries" makes more sense because a lot of amazing games came out decades ago and still play/feel great.

 

Golf Story is perfect and it's one of the most enjoyable games I've ever played

 

I wish someone would make a game that plays like Tony Hawk's Underground, a game from 2003

 

Man, I fucking loved Underground. Need For Speed Underground wasn't too bad either.

 

I played through it again pretty recently. It holds the fuck up.

 

I'm more excited to play rune factory 4 on Switch than most new games tbh

 

I'm not sure I can go through all that again, maybe I just wait for 5

 

I will definitely agree this year is a weird one. It seems like most of the games worth anything are all at the tail end, at least for me.

However, if you haven't played any of the following, I am ashamed of you considering they all came out this year and are very good:

Definitely can’t wait to get into Bloodstained

 

Yeah fair enough, I am interested in Kingdom Hearts 3. I will play that at some point. Maybe. Apex and Mario I mentioned, the rest I kinda don't care about. I'm too jaded.

 

Definitely excited to play Bloodstained but I’m hoping the Switch port will be patched before I jump in

 

It's no surprise to me that the indies are way better than the AAA entries this year.
