Looking at this fall lineup, I can only really picture Death Stranding beating DMC5 for GOTY for me this year

 

Beating DMC5 isn't hard

 

Neither of those for me.

Hell yes

 

I genuinely do not understand the lukewarm reviews for Days Gone. It's one of the best games on Playstation, easily. It has an engaging story, the open world/gameplay is more than solid and the dynamic weather system is probably the best I've ever seen in a game. The graphics are beyond brilliant - I mean, the environments are genuinely stunning. I have no idea how dated trash like DMC5 can be released to near universal acclaim, whereas a fantastic game like Days Gone is met with little more than a shrug.

 

Days Gone would have got better reviews if it wasn't a new IP

 

Also if it wasn't a zombie game

 

the problem with days gone isn't that it's bad, the problem is that it's heavily referential without improving on any of the systems it lifted from other games.
also it had a plethora of bugs when it first came out.

 

Still amazes me that RDR2 and DMC5 got praised to death when they're completely unoriginal yet Days Gone got heavily criticised for being unoriginal

 

Days Gone wasn't amazing but it's still the 3rd best game I've played from this year

this year has sucked so far

 

you're not wrong, apart from Apex, RE2 and Sekiro there wasn't much that impressed me in the AAA space.
