You know what’s funny I’m pretty sure those two think RDR2 is at least fine, it’s just me that truely thinks it’s bad

Honestly I think most of it is decent enough, really I think it was overhyped and overrated purely due to it being a Rockstar game. The two highest rated games on PS4 Being Rockstar games is just so ridiculous to me

 

I do think the current gen version of GTAV is a very, verg good game. I wouldn’t give it a 10 either, but a 9 for sure.

 

Finally a fair take. I’d take my hat off to you sir but I don’t wear hats. Something about me not being a hat person. I’ve genuinely looked for one that suits me for years and just...no. The search continues.

 

A fair score for RDR2 to me would be nothing above an 8, which is a lot more than I would personally give it, but I can be reasanoble lol

 

It’s well-made and the story and characters are amazing but it’s painfully rote when it comes to mission design and a lot of the systems decisions that they made for the sake of “realism” just make the game not fun/a hassle to play. I wouldn’t call it a bad game but the good in it does not outweigh the bad by much lol

 

I thought the game was really satisfying to play mechanically, it was absolutely gorgeous and has the best sound direction and music I've ever experienced in the medium, I didn’t mind the controls as much as others seemed to, and I think it has the best ensemble cast in video games by a huge margin. There is so much to do in that game and because of how well it’s written, all of it feels meaningful. I played so much RDR2 poker just to hear conversation with NPCs. The composition of the cutscenes, some of the bold storytelling choices they made toward the end (like the completely optional dialogue tree about Arthur’s dead son and wife). I get that it didn’t click for everyone but playing that game was a heavy experience on par with God Of War for me last year, and I think it’s as much of an achievement within the open-world genre as Breath of the Wild.

I think it was the Kotaku review that suggested RDR2 was like a video game from an alternate history where Far Cry 2 was more influential to open-world games than Far Cry 3, and I completely agree with that. Like Far Cry 2, I think it’s somehow already underrated and I think we’ll see how much that game’s innovations inform game design next generation.
