Like, I think that one is single-handedly responsible for killing E3. There's just no following that up.

I have to say, I know everyone loves to put their cynical pants on during E3 season but I'm actually really sad to see the slow decay of the show happening like this. Like, I get that it's a big financial burden and it isn't totally necessary with all the ways publishers can communicate to the public these days, but some of my fondest gaming memories growing up involved E3. I loved sitting at home tearing through the E3 issue of GameInformer or EGM or something. I loved staying in, ordering takeout, and marathoning the press conferences all packed into a single day on whatever television channel was showing them (or streaming them online in more recent years). It was something I legitimately looked forward to every year. Idk, I probably sound dumb but I really did (and still do) love it.

 

The creation of a 24 hour news cycle definitely changed E3 bigggggg time. I loved getting those EGM's as well as a kid. God damn I loved getting a new EGM back in the day.

 

We still get Dorito Pope's all-day broadcast on Monday and Tuesday, which is fine because a lot of cool stuff gets shown and announced there (that dude gets so many exclusives it's wild), but yeah the fact that they can speak directly to us with in-house streams like Nintendo does, coupled with the fact that we don't have to wait for a magazine if we weren't there in person, has slowly been rendering the show obsolete. It's sad but it is what it is I guess.

On I think Jason Schreier's podcast last week they suggested it would be a good idea to have all of the publishers that do conferences instead all release Direct-style presentations on the same day in June to sort of create a more cost-effective E3 day. Like have them all come together and agree on a schedule that's similar to how they used to do it (Bethesda-Microsoft-EA-Square Enix-Ubisoft-Sony-Nintendo) and just each put up a 60-90 minute stream. I would honestly be fine with that and would prefer it to the way things are going to be this year.

 

So ive been watching FF XIV streams at work because I don't like to actually work and one of the streamers yesterday said each part of the FF7 remake is allegedly supposed to be as big as FF XV was, so, if that's the case I dont mind it being two parts as much.

 

My major concern was if it was going to be more than two parts. Like, if it was a trilogy, where do you split it? If it's just two parts that seems much more doable.

The Hardwick thing is it for me, I won't be buying it if he's in it. It's just insane how unnecessary it is, like even if his character had to be in the game, how is it that he can't be recast? Is anyone really going to miss Chris Hardwick's voice that much? Also I thought Gearbox was super concerned about money these days, even after the allegations it has to be cheaper to hire an unknown soundalike than Hardwick himself. It's like they're going out of their way to do this.

 

honestly it's wild to me that "woke" people were still considering Borderlands 3.

The saddest thing is it'll probably still be a hit because gamers have no backbone.

It’s crazy that in the same hand they would do this (which is pretty heartwarming). But, this does not excuse them of course.
