Question - isn’t calling a game a ‘power fantasy’ redundant seeing as nigh on every game is pretty much exactly that? Getting to do and feel something that you can’t achieve/wouldn’t do in real life? Just seems like a daft buzz term that’s thrown around by critics a lot.

Implying everybody who plays these games has some sort of predisposition for violence and isn’t just after a fun game to play with friends is somewhat shortsighted to say the least.

 

Sad. As a PS4 owner I’ve been dying to play Portal again for ages. Jealous.

Idk, guess I’ve always read it as a ‘oh typical American gun wankery’ kinda insult. In the context of the tweet that mentioned the term I absolutely think it was being used in a pejorative way.

 

I think the tweet was in regards to the ludonarrative disonance on display, because it’s hard to be pensive about war and violence when you also need to make sure the guns feel good when you pull the trigger

 

That makes a lot of sense actually yeah. Though could the argument not be made that the dissonance is intentional? The trailer had an emphasis on morality and that.

 

For me personally, I don't care that MS has 14 first party games to show at E3. With their track record, all I care about is how many actually release.

 

I agree. Wasn't a fan of that article. A lot of speculation over a bunch of scenes out of context.

This CoD controversy makes me feel like I’m in a time loop. It’s probably a symptom of racing towards middle age lol

 

The thing I hate the most about the CoDtroversy is that everyone is playing right into their hands. They want novel-length thinkpieces and angry tweetstorms to get the public riled up. It’s free marketing.
