MediEvil is Unearthed October 25, 2019

 

I’m glad Sony is throwing their weight behind a game that looks like it plays like a ps1 gams with a frame rate well south of 25 FPS. Fucking yikes.

 

Turn-based is life

 

The Dragon Quest Heroes games prove that some games are definitely much better off being turn based lol

 

A lot of people are really fucking excited about it haha. And they’re doing a pretty impressive and faithful job of the remake. It’ll play like a PS1 game because it’s a remake of a PS1 game.

The frame rate is concerning, but it’s slated for October. Plenty of time for optimisation. The devs are quite involved with the community and have made changes accordingly, so I have faith they’ll be improving on the complaints fans have.

MediEvil and Crash Team Racing were my life as a kid. Being spoiled this year with the remakes. Love it.

Remake looks cool

 

It remains as one of my favourite PS1 games ever. The atmosphere was gothic and creepy, the gameplay was fun as heck and the art style was gorgeous. I will say the remake doesn’t look quite as dark or creepy, presumably for more appeal, but I’ll absolutely be buying this. It needs work but the team are doing a stellar job so far.

 

As someone who was there for the original when it came out the gameplay looks shockingly similar.

I mean yeah it’s faithful but I’m not sure if 2019 will be kind to it.

 

I don’t see that as a bad thing personally! Certain elements will need tightening up but I’m excited to revisit that world.

 

This looks intentionally similar to the original in terms of gameplay, which is cool in a way but yeah there's the risk that it won't hold up to today's standards.

Resident Evil 2 set the bar so high for me with remakes, as they managed to modernise it whilst still keeping it faithful to the original.

 

That was my main gripe with the Ratchet and Clank PS4 game. The weapons and the shooting just didn’t feel like anything, possibly because they wanted to remain faithful to the ps1 game somewhat. Like there was no heft to it.

 

The problem is that the fans have been clamouring for a faithful recreation from the get-go. Any variation will be met with an internet mob.

 

I think remaking a game should ideally include updated gameplay. Otherwise why not just port it with minor adjustments?

 

Cos we demand pretty shit okay but you’re not wrong

 

Upscaling to make it sharp, sure, add some widescreen, but that’s enough to me, unless you actually remake it

 

Turn based games are also the best because their gameplay holds up better

 

Honestly turn based medievil would be an improvement on a straight port of the ps1 gameplay.

That said I’m still cautiously stoked for the game.

I’m one of the anti turn-based lot. Soz. Just don’t find that enjoyable in the slightest haha. And what a terrifying notion that would be.

I'd rather play a PS1 turn based game than most PS2 action games.

Glad Medievil is getting a remake because I always wanted to play them but never got around to it.
