    Investment is the right word:

"an act of devoting time, effort, or energy to a particular undertaking with the expectation of a worthwhile result"

    or

"a thing that is worth buying because it may be profitable or useful in the future."

It's not always about money as a trade-off in the end.

Profitability is about money. “Usefull” is odd because well yeah, then basically everything is an investment, including a pizza. So that’s complicated I’ll admit. I guess that first definition partly applies, though buying a console is not really an undertaking I’d say, and “worthwhile results” should probably be more than the regular usage of the product. Anyway, usually people use the term in this context (consoles, TVs etc.) to describe something with a high entry price that they’ll use for a while, which is not really a great use of the word imo, or at least one that requires some definition bending.

Also I have to say this is now one of the more obscure side discussions this thread has seen, haha.

EDIT: THIS IS NOT A FIGHT LOL

Well, given the known facts out there about a game in development for Microsoft that could potentially be Fable based on the descriptions, I’d say it’s at least realer than Persona 5 on Switch lol

I’m definitely not expecting any less than $600. I’ll probably buy both though for the first time ever. Xbox first though, especially with Halo dropping day one

Agreed. I didn't think it was arguing at all.

What it really boils down to is how language ends up adopting slang definitions as actually definition because of a variety of reasons. Two primary reasons are ease of use and the idea that language always evolves and changes.

I'll give you a quick example: the idiom "don't judge a book by its cover" was originally "don't judge a book by its binding" and then changed when someone else wrote a popular book that said "you can never tell a book by its cover". However nowadays if you were to take that literally I would probably question your judgement. It's often applied as "don't judge someone based on their appearances" and so forth, but if you were to use the statement in a literal sense there are some books you can and should judge by their covers because that's how they are designed towards their markets. The idiom itself has changed because marketing has changed, book covers have changed and the world has changed.

In summary: language is cool, ever-changing and stupid at the same time.
