Yeah, its not and neither is an Easy Mode in games but I think it's a strange thing to declare a game should have like it's strange to say a movie should have multiple versions so more people can understand it.

 

The film comparison doesn't hold much water given reaction times become a physical barrier to progress whereas a film being "too complicated" is a mental barrier, but you can see it all if you want to.

 

I wonder, what are people's views on having "hard" or "expert" modes in games? Something that changes the game from a normal mode to offer more of a challenge to players? Is that the same or different to including a "story" or "easy" mode? Why, or why not?

If you think you’re still playing Sekiro if you add those options idk man at that point you’re better off buying another game.

 

This isn't about accessibility, it's about difficulty. They are not the same thing.

This isn't the issue, though. The issue is not that I have a problem with From putting an easy mode into their games. The issue is that From should not be be forced to do so, nor should they be shamed into doing so. It's their art, they can make it however they want. If their vision doesn't include a difficulty option, that's their vision.

But it seems that the demands of the, sorry I am not up to date on my nomenclature here, disabled gamers community, are quite literally an easy mode.

yeah but you can see all of a film and have it be worthless if you don't understand what's going on.

 

The issue isn’t whether From can do it, of course they can do it. The issue is whether they should be forced or shamed into compromising their artistic vision. They are the ultimate decisionmakers here. I guarantee you that if someone tried to force Malick or Haneke or Lelio to compromise the intent behind their work due to outside pressures they would not be very receptive to it.

To be fair this happens all the time. I mean Blade Runner alone has three different cuts.

From Software already added an easy mode with Sekiro anyway I'm still surprised you can pause this game lol

 

Not sure if Malick films have inspired FOMO in the way From games do, the reason why this topic is so loud is that these games have become a cornerstone in gaming.

I just don't get the aversion/shaming of folks abled or not who'd like to experience the game for one reason or another, From certainly shouldn't be shamed into designing their game differently but I also couldn't care less about how someone else approaches a single-player game... that's fucking stupid.

 

Still so confused as to why Sekiro in particular is the game that has caused such sustained criticism and hate from so many people.

Exactly. So the people against story or easy modes, are they for higher difficulty modes? I'd be willing to bet a lot are, which would be a huge hypocrisy. Which is why I asked.
