Funky Kong should be in every game you're right.

I disagree with nearly all of this. Cory isn't needlessly inserting himself into anything. He's a well respected and admired person in the industry and regardless of the games he creates, he has a voice that can influence current and, more importantly in my mind, future developers. Him making a statement such as "Accessible features do not equal easy mode," and "Challenge, even extreme challenge, can co-exist with options to allow gamers different from you to play the same game with the same level of challenge." are very important messages to get across to people.

Even if this whole thing started out as Sekiro needs an easy mode, it doesn't matter anymore, it sparked a more important conversation about accessibility in games and how the disabled community views the current state of the industry. Working toward a future where everyone can play the same game, even people with disabilities, and still get the same challenge/experience is something I think is necessary.

    P. S. The second you use a term like "beta males" is the second I'm going to scrutinize every thing you say.

  6. Just gonna leave this tweet here.

  7. This is a bad comparison. It’s not like saying the director of a complex and nuanced film should dumb it down. It’s like saying theaters should offer subtitled screenings, low-light screenings, screenings in wheelchair-accessible theaters, etc, so everyone can enjoy the same movie regardless of their mobility or sensory functions.

Everything doesn’t need to be for everyone, but everyone should have the same access to everything. That is what people mean when they talk about “easy mode” as accessibility.

Idk, making a game easier is like making an easier movie. Making the game easier isn't the same as adding subtitles or allowing the lighting to be changed when the difficulty is a core part of what the game is.

It comes down to specifics, there seem to be some accessibility issues being spoken about that aren't about making the game easier and I'm not exactly sure what they are or even if these issues are being aimed at Sekiro in particular or just the gaming industry as a whole so I can't really comment on those.

the difficulty of a game is not comparable to shit like seating and lighting. it’s like asking Terrance Malick or whoever to make linear plots because their movies are too hard to understand

exactly. it's changing the work itself as opposed to making it easier to access.

This right here is it, chief

  12. It’s not like that though because no one is saying that Sekiro, or any game, should be made easier for everyone. They’re saying games should have easy modes, which do not at all affect the core gameplay. If Terrance Malick rewrites a movie to dumb it down, that changes it for everyone, and no one is making the argument that video games should do that.

Moral of the story is, people need to stop conflating difficulty with accessibility, and people need to stop trying to dictate what From does with From's games. This bizarre shame crusade to try and get From to add easy modes when they clearly don't want to has to stop, plain and simple.

It'd be funny if every movie had like a "Michael Bay Version" on the DVD menu you could play

Fine then it's like people trying to force Malick to make two cuts of his movies, one where it is his vision and another where the plot is linear and easier to understand.

Btw I have zero opinion on this whatsoever, that mental image just made me laugh so I had to post about it

ok so it's like saying he should make a less complex version of his movie as well as the original so more people could enjoy it.

I just want to add that no one from from said anything about this and people are essentially fighting over their own weird misunderstandings.

so, in the end, all I can say is: git gud

I dont understand who is actually complaining about this. The only comment Ive seen from someone who is actually affected by this described themselves as having worse than average reaction times. Which is about the same as saying a puzzle game should be easier because Im not very good at puzzles. Just play a different game.

It's quite interesting that people that have no stated need for accessibility in their gaming are arguing against its inclusion. I wonder how opinions would change were that the case.

As I said, it’s just a bunch of lame ass Twitter dudes who caught feelings over getting their shit pushed in are now trying to pretend it’s about standing up for disabled gamers because they’re too embarrassed.

yeah, which is why I'm a bit confused at how this ended up being about general accessibility.

  24. Making two versions of the same movie isn’t an absurd concept in film. Michael Haneke did a shot-for-shot remake of Funny Games in English. Sebastian Lelio just did the same with Gloria Bell. Even as far as video games go, remakes and remaster often change QOL features and add things to improve the experience. But everyone in this thread should follow Steven Spohn on Twitter and listen to disabled people with opinions on the matter because the last time I got into it about a From software game in this thread, someone called me a capitalist for liking Bloodborne.

  25. This is embarassing
