It's always corny to me and I'm such a jrpg nerd I really prefer reading text instead of just listening to it.

I like voice acting but I still also turn on subtitles and skip to the next line once I have read the subtitles lol

 

As someone who is hearing impaired, it truly makes me happy that subtitles are a standard thing in gaming. Like part of the reason I feel in love with like GTA and MGS was because they’d use subtitles when many companies wouldn’t.

Cory Barlog has never in his life made a game that is as mechanically intricate as Sekiro and needs to shut the fuck up. This entire discussion is being fought in bad faith on the back of a game which only offense is that some beta males got owned one too many times.

He's needlessly inserting himself into a debate that is not about accessibility but is only a thinly veiled attempt to somehow guilt From into making easier games.

There's nothing inherently unaccessible in Sekiro, except that it's hard.

 

I feel like it's dumb to say that just because accessibility doesn't compromise his artistic vision that it can't compromise it for others.

Its like looking at a complex and nuanced film and saying it should have been less difficult to decipher or added more jokes so more people could enjoy it. Not everything needs to be for everyone.

 

well yeah but people are conflating two things here. making sure Sekiro has subtitles, a colourblind mode and whatever other features less able bodied gamers need to be able to complete the game should be in there, that's not a discussion.
but to actually go in and change things about the game just so some nerd that doesn't wanna put in the effort to actually learn the game can feel a sense of accomplishment is not accessibility.

 

Yeah I was confused about where the article went. The only discussion I've seen about accessibility in the game so far has been about an east mode buy then that was saying they don't mean making the game easier.

 

I think a lot of this “debate” comes down to the inherently dishonest premise that “difficulty = accessibility”, which just isn’t true at all.

In addition, like I’ve said, if From wants to make an easy mode in one of their games I’m all for that. It’s their decision. But I’m starting to get really pissed off about all these people trying to force it on them or shame them into it. Miyazaki shouldn’t have to alter his vision for his games just because not everyone can finish them. I really hope he doesn’t.

Sekiro is perfect, and we don’t deserve From.

 

Also I'm stuck at the Owl boss but I'm also having fun with it. Already had him down to 10% of his second phase but got too exhausted to keep up the pace needed to continue.

IF ONLY THE GAME WAS MORE ACCESSIBLE, amirite?

I just don’t understand why this conversation is still happening this time. Usually we get these takes during like launch week and then they die down and go away until the next one.

My best theory is that this time there are a ton of From fans who are struggling for the first time in a while and who feel ashamed or embarrassed as a result. So there are more vocal voices criticizing the game. But I don’t know for sure.

 

I’ll be straight up honest and say I’m naff at Sekiro. Bloodborne I felt like I could dominate at. Sekiro is slapping me senseless and it’s a barrier for me at the moment as I’ve very limited time to play games since I’ve moved. Usually just get sad and defect to MWR or Apex. And even Apex I’ve slowed on because I got all the trophies and wore it out a bit. I need quick fixes at the moment and I’m fine with knowing Sekiro will be sat there teasing me for months until I get my shit together and properly sit down with it.

Fuck I gotta dive back into getting pissed off at dark souls today, been playing EtG, it's so fucking fun. That game is hard af too.

 

Some people are born with slower than avergare reaction times, for example. Accessibility features for them would make them game easier for people with average reaction times, it they choose to enable them. Doesn’t mean it’s an easy mode technically.

 

That literally makes it an easy mode though.

 

Yeah I get defending From's integrity with the difficulty but being very against an easy mode is a strange hill to die on when I really think about it.
