IDK I find that just as artificial in padding as I do the 4 different raid difficulties tbh, but I never played vanilla so I have zero nostalgia attached to it, even if it makes sense in the context of 2004 MMO

 

It’s not really artificial though, it forces you to progress through the content in a logical order while explaining the story of all the raids and stuff going on. The problem was that the lack of catch up mechanics meant if you weren’t attuned and everyone in your guild was you were fucked. But the biggest problem the game has right now in that regard is that the catch up mechanics in place are too much and replace the actual content you should be doing before stepping into raiding

I feel like LFR was such a good compromise design-wise in that it got a lot of people into at least being able to see the raids that they hadn't before, but they weren't necessarily essential for gearing... but maybe they overstepped by applying a more casual mindset to designing the actual normals (and to a lesser extent heroics after they made the mythic tier), its weird to tier difficulty that much when gear is still such a vital factor in experiencing the harder modes.

 

LFR has absolutely no place in the game right now with how easy normal mode is. it should be wiped out and normal should be the entry level raid tier.
