I opened up Darksiders II again for like five minutes and got dizzy. Is this what getting old feels like?

 

I call them Metroidvanias

 

Most people call them Souls-like and I hate that term. They're RPGs lol

 

I believe they created their own genre within the RPG realm and I have to agree with the term souls-like.

 

Anime and JRPGs > anything else

 

Think I have lowest standards with JRPGs. Like I can enjoy a medicore JRPG but a mediocre FPS would bore me to death.

 

Action RPGs is what they are. I do really believe they’re also Metroidvanias.

 

They do resemble castlevania quite a bit. Metroid not so much.

I do agree that they are action RPG’s but I think they have created their own sub genre within it as well.

 

Witcher 3 and AC Odyssey are both action RPGs and they're both very different.

I don't get why the distinction is made at Soulsborne games, they're ARPGs too

I believe the Sculptor specifically gets sick no matter what to show you how to cure it. I think moving forward it's now tied to the resurrection mechanic. I had a couple folks sick but they're all healed... for now lol

 

When Code Vein eventually gets released it'll be labeled a JRPG because of its animé art style, even though gameplay is very similar to dark souls. All these different RPG subgenres are outdated

 

Wow I’m either really bad at Symphony of The Night or it’s very hard in the beginning. Haven’t gotten to a save point. To be fair tho I was just throwing it on right before I went to bed last night.

 

SotN is pretty tough in general

 

I just played through it for the first time a couple weeks back, early part of the game is pretty hard but gets really easy as you level up.

 

Dope. A little irked the screen is minimized too, but overall very excited to jump in. I’ve been obsessed with metroidvanias as of late.

 

So if you were recommending or explaining Metroid or Castlevania to someone, what would you say? You can't say "oh, it's a Metroid-like" or "it's a Castlevania-like" or anything like that because the premise would be completely lost on them.

 

Was watching a quiz show called The Chase with my mother before, and there was a question which was something like "the subgenre of video games called Metroidvania are similar to the Metroid games and which other series?" I screamed Castlevania so loud and quick before the options came up and I've never felt so judged
