Bruh, I don’t know how you can watch this and not be impressed at the very least about what they’re laying out here.

So is it a subscription-based service? How do you actually get it?

I assume you just buy the games through their "Stadia Store" like anywhere else.

I was wondering this too. Subscription would be interesting and seems most likely to me at this point. Everyone has been talking about a "Netflix for games" for a while - this could be as close as we're going to get. The fact that it all seems quite seamless (see a link, click it, play) makes it seem that way too. Very intrigued about the price point mind. I wonder if they plan to do a couple of points - £15 for up to 3 games a month, £20 for unlimited or whatever?

I think it’ll be a subscription-based model, makes more sense with the “everyone is connected” angle they’re aiming for. If everyone had access to the same games through one fee, it gives it a much bigger player share.

Yeah because individually paying for the ability to stream games off a server seems like it won't go over too well with players.

Most definitely, and especially since they can just go play games on their consoles or PCs if they wanted to pay to play individual games.

I think what excites me most is that this means my shitty laptop will be able to play high end games, which opens up a whole world of PC gaming if things get ported over.

Having played some Project Stream, if they are able to deliver that on a much larger scale like they're promising, this could be huge. The fact that I could take my Macbook wherever, and launch into a game and it run like it does on my PC at home, would be huge. This is great for those who can't afford to build multi-thousand dollar machines to be able to actually play games. Obviously it remains to be seen what all will be offered and what the pay-structure will be like, but I'm excited. Project Stream played surprisingly well.

Nope, I assume that'll come over the summer when they talk about the offerings.

It'll be interesting if google looks to play nice and offer Twitch integration eventually.

If anyone is interested in trying out a similar service, Nvidia GeForce Now is in open beta on PC/Mac. There's a waitlist but I got on within the week a few months ago. It's very similar tech, works very well imo.

    Still A Threat Prestigious

Eh maybe, but we’re already somewhat doing that, plenty of games are basically unplayable without day one patches (which won’t be available at some point) or a connection to a server, disc/download or no

I think a lot of people will feel that there's a difference between paying for games that you own and will always have and paying to be able to stream a single game only until the service decides you can't anymore. Especially if they charge full price for it (which they probably will, we all remember when digital distribution was supposed to lower the cost of games but didn't). And that's regardless fof whether or not the current state of the industry also requires the internet to do things like download patches.
