All war shooters will be referred to as BLOPS -like

 

Golden Sun and Golf Story are both sports games

Shlooters is a terribly stupid name.

I call them G&Gs (Guns and Gear)

 

You shoot things in first person in Resident Evil 7 and that's definitely not a FPS lol

 

The common term is looter-shooter/loot-shooter. Destiny, Division, Anthem, Warframe, Borderlands, etc. Although Borderlands doesn't have the shared-world MMO-lite elements that the others do (at least, not up to this point), so it's slightly different. Also, perspective is irrelevant because looter-shooters can be first-person or third-person.

 

It's also monumentally worse.

Loot shooter is the worst name for a game genre I’ve ever heard.

 

It should be called what it is: a colossal failure of a game design that hasn’t seen a good game since borderlands 2 (the division 2 is the exception that proves the rule)

 

I definitely feel like the genre, whatever it’s called, needs a fresh start. Hopefully, it starts with The Division 2. But I have heard it’s far from perfect. The first one had a ton of hiccups as well but once it worked out the kinks it was a pretty good game!

Idk, "looter-shooter" sounds a lot better than "loot-based shared-world MMO-lite role-playing shooter" but that's just me I s'pose

Nobody said anybody did? That's just what they are? My point being that it's an easily-understood shorthand to describe a way more complicated description that evolved over the course of the last few years. In the same way any genre's name is shorthand for what it actually is.

You wouldn't call Banjo-Kazooie a "third-person collect-a-thon 3D mascot platformer", you just call it a "platformer".

"Looter-shooter" is more common, I've just seen loot-shooter pop up more recently so I also included that.

Division 2 is a ton of fun. Destiny 1 and 2 were both a good time, albeit content in the 2nd definitely was lacking at the end
