The argument here happened because Joe neglected to mention that the specific case he was referring to was for medicinal purposes. Nothing more. Japan’s draconian laws aren’t something I was defending and I don’t appreciate the implication that I was.

 

I am very conservative when it comes to this topic as I have never smoked, done drugs and after my brother became an alcoholic I stopped drinking as well. (I am happy to report he has been clean for a few years now.) In saying that I tend to admire them taking it seriously but I also think such harsh punishment for using something like drugs should be re-examined.

 

I could go majorly in depth on this but it's as simple as do bad people do drugs? Yes. Are all people who do drugs bad? Absolutely not.

 

There's taking it seriously and then there's the complete erasure of a person because of a drug and it's messed up. This guy did coke. Now he's being removed from literally everything he's been a part of there. It's insane to me.

 

Being imprisoned for taking drugs is ridiculous because you haven't wronged anyone in a anyway, you've literally just put something in your body. Think drugs are bad all you want, but locking someone up and ruining their life for taking a substance is fucking awful.

 

As I said, the whole system should be re-examined/re-evaluated.

 

Japan has a huge issue with alcohol so it's incredible that they will criminalize weed to such an extent when drinking is encouraged and even expected depending on the social circumstances, and we are talking drinking to excess for company gatherings, hazing, etc. Japan has a lot of great things to point to, but their archaic views on drugs and mental health are not one of them.
