I mean that’s an extreme simplification of how engines really work, if it’s the same it’ll be the same base engine modified and updated to be newer. A lot of long running franchises stick to the same engine with updates every time. And as assassins creed unity showed us completely building a new engine from the ground up can have devestating consequences if not handled properly, so it’s not automatically in Bethesda’s best interest to create an entirely new engine

the creation engine is not nearly as bad as people make it out to be tbh. it’s honestly used a scapegoat when like I said the real problem over at Bethesda right now has everything to do with design philosophy

I highly suggest this video (and this guys content in general, he is extremely critical of Bethesda but from the perspective of a die hard fan of their games)

Yes I’m aware companies update an existing engine, but Bethesda are big enough to make a new one now. That engine is dated af

making a new engine is not that simple though is kind of my point, doesn’t matter how big they are that’s a drastic overhaul that can throw game development into complete chaos

Very true yes, but like you guys were saying earlier Starfield needs to look good. Esp after this Fallout 76 nonsense.

I think starfield would be their best opportunity for a new engine, brand new IP without a set aesthetic or any pre determined systems, if they’re gonna do it now is definitely the time

God of War is near perfect, especially the pacing which puts it above RDR2 and Spider-Man imo

(Edit: v different games and they don’t really need to be compared against one another but often were anyway)

I thought the return to Arkham collection had all three of the Arkham games before Knight but it doesn’t even have Origins. BOOOO.

I finished God of War about two weeks ago and it was everything people said it was. I could have done without the extra ending setting up the sequel, though, but that seems to be every video game ending these days.

    No. The ending was needed

It wasn't, and it steps on the very thoughtful and moving real ending.

This also comes on the heels of the "secret" ending to Kingdom Hearts 3, but there is an internal struggle between wanting to tell these narratives that compete with novels and films and the need to keep franchises going forever. The final scene on the mountaintop is poetic and quiet, but the finality of that feeling is lost when the additional ending suggests that this stuff is just going to keep going on forever.

We know there is going to be a sequel anyway, both because of the nature of the business and the wealth of Norse mythology left over, so being hit over the head at the end is overkill.

It would’ve been fine without the ending but it’s no biggie to me. It’s no different then the secret endings of the OG GoW.
