You’re saying this under the assumption they weren’t working on it prior to the original even being released. I can’t see them doing this and then announcing ANOTHER Spider-Man game. I think this will be the base from which further ‘expansions’ will be added to.

The first one was like 15-20 hours though, it didn't overstay its welcome. Most news stories refer to this one as a sequel. But who knows, they could come out soon and say this is a mid-sized stop-gap game for $40 or something.

They could have easily been working on this Spiderman game alongside the first one

Right and they probably were lmao. Sony using the original game to show off PS5 load times ages ago shows that they were working closely together.

I can’t think of any game ever that was made simultaneously with the sequel. If anything they started on this game in early 2019 after the spider-man 2018 DLC was finished releasing.

Every news outlet is calling it a sequel so I'm going with that until we hear differently from official channels

GTA V was being worked on while Red Dead was being worked on. And again - Sony have clearly been working together with them for a while and used the original Spider-Man game to show off PS5 load times. Money talks.

I mean the first PS5 demo ever was them showing off the original Insomniac Spider-Man game saying how fast it loaded. That is a pretty usual demarcation for showing off a new console when theyre going to make a sequel on the new hardware. Get the old game up and running to display the tech youre going to put in your shiny new sequel.
Though the PS4 generation was the grand age of remasters so we're all kinda brainwashed by that, and who knows that could still happen.

Yeah and Red Dead 2 released 5 years after GTAV.

Your point being? Literally everywhere is officially calling it a sequel.

My point being it takes a while to make a full-fledged sequel, especially going from current gen to next gen. The story will take place after Spider-Man 2018, so it’s still a sequel. It just won’t probably be as big as the one in 2018.

Not if they were working on it alongside the production of the original, which is what we’re all suggesting lmao

It’s always the Dr Disrespect guy being an ass, still shocking to me honestly

it’s entirely possible for studios to work on multiple projects at a time. This isn’t some impossibility.

The original Spider-Man from 2018 was also their first time making one of those. That meant building out that city, crating the engine and gameplay systems, doing character designs, casting actors and realizing their unique version of all of those characters. All that work is done now, so it makes sense a sequel would take less time.

The big question is if the open world is expanded beyond Manhattan or if it's just a refinement of what was there already.

All I know is, I saw a lot of games I want to play.

(and I think Spider-Man: Miles Morales is closer to being an Uncharted: The Lost Legacy "sequel" versus a proper Spider-Man 2, which will probably have both Peter AND Miles in time for Spider-Verse 2 in 2022.)

Maybe the first took 4 because they were trying to perfect the mechanics, get the story written, etc. Once they had momentum, it could easily take half the time to create a sequel.

i back what @Dan CiTi said. If the game takes place in the same city, thats a huge time saver for them too.
