People give TES, and Skyrim specifically a lot of shit. Though I’ve always loved this about the series.

Skyrim rode the critical rollercoaster that all games that get that big seem to. becomes so popular people grow to resent it because it dominates the conversation for the genre for so long that other games with a lot to offer get looked over. that's what i feel happened with Dragon's Dogma - people had just played Skyrim and had their fill of that kind of arpg and DD got swept to the side. i know that's why i didn't play DD til now.

that said Skyrim is a very good game, although its gameplay is the weakest component. the scale and world design make it an all time classic even if the combat feels like swinging a broom stick

I honestly love the elder scrolls gameplay. Yeah the swordplay is jank but I like playing stealth and archer. Also the spells can be hilarious.

tbh, Skyrim is better than both of BGS’s Fallout games by, like, a ton. It’s a great game.

I feel like people’s dislike of those two games also gives it a bad rep by association.

Thomas the train mod with randy savage voice is the best thing to come to Skyrim

I got the SE for One X months ago so I could do mods but the load times make it nearly unplayable unfortunately. There’s kinda no excuse that the later iterations of the consoles this gen don’t have ssds.

all i know is AC Odyssey is multiple times longer than AC Origins, and im level 34 in Origins and it is running on fumes at best. i want a 40 hour version of this game that is all killer no filler.

like Origins really bothers me. i did every side quest for a very long time. a handful of main quests later and i am getting stomped, red skulls over enemies heads in place of levels. the "time saver" mtx permeates the entire game design by endgame and its a fuckin bummer. it's a beautiful world with decently written interactions but i could have beaten three better games in this time. having to do more than 50 percent of side quests in any game is bad game design. it's disguising mandatory grinding as optional content

I never ran into that problem when I played Origins, actually. I even rushed through the final, like, several hours of the main missions. My problem was that there was so much to do that I just kind of got burnt out and realized that if I didn't push through I'd never finish it. But I never felt the pressure to do too much of the side content.

idk what our disconnect is haha. i did almost every single available side quest for the first thirty levels and hit a hard wall yesterday. did you finish the game?

Not only did I finish the game, I finished the game without even going to entire regions of the world map lol. Like I still had sections of the map that were greyed out because I never even crossed their border.

Same but I think that’s not much a problem in those games.

Oddysey has better extended side quest lines btw. There are complete short games hidden in there lol
