The people who post spoilers online are literally doing it to RUIN OTHER’S EXPERIENCE. They’re assholes with nothing better to do, and seem to get off on pissing folk off.

You don’t have to tell me anything. You made some snarky response about it being an academic publication therefore I MUST be wrong. As I said before, as a concept that’s stupid to me. I don’t have any desire to read that because it doesn’t make sense to me.

I can’t remember when I was spoiled the last time. Maybe it’s because I don’t read comments. Nobody should tbh.

Yeah and other people try and justify it by saying they enjoy discussing the show with others, but like you can have that conversation in private or post spoiler warnings. It's so obvious that some people just enjoy spoiling things for others.

Saying that it “doesn’t make sense” is wrong, yes, nothing snarky about pointing that out

Spoilers put me off finishing GoT lol. And it's put me off even starting other popular shows

Will you read what I just said? I said it doesn’t make sense to me. To. ME. ME!! MEEEE. NOT YOU.

That doesn’t conflict with those findings though. They’re saying that if you would have watched those shows regardless, you’d might have liked them anyway, maybe even more.

Well yeah because you haven’t read it, they explain it, it’s really not complicated. I wish people wouldn’t argue about headlines only.

And that’s obviously something he doesn’t agree with or he would’ve watched those shows. But he must be wrong because a published academic institution wrote that...right?

Lmao whatever. I don’t have any desire to read the piece as I said. Why you’re choosing to be arsey about it is beyond me.

Spoilers have made me enjoy a show less. Makes scenes less climactic if you know what's going to happen. I like being surprised lol

No. He can’t agree or disagree because he hasn’t actually watched them. You only know how much you actually enjoy something that was spoiled for you if you still watch it obviously. Otherwise you’re just making assumptions about how spoilers affect your enjoyment of the actual show. Which is fine, it’s just a show, you don’t have to do watch it. That doesn’t mean those findings aren’t valid.

I am not. You are. I posted a serious article, not a shitty think piece, for people to consider in case they are really nervous about spoilers. I thought it might help. You then proceeded to shit on it based on, well, nothing, because you obviously haven’t read it. I don’t see how I am the one acting out here. I did not tell anyone to look for spoilers. I just pointed out that there are *real* reasons to think that it might not be so bad if you do find them.

It’s a subjective topic. And with that in mind - I don’t have an interest in reading the piece. You don’t have to try prove me wrong just because an academic institution published it.

Idk what to say lmao. I gave my opinion. You then implied I was wrong because it’s published by who it is. Doesn’t make it right. That’s what I’m ‘acting out’ about.

Because saying it doesn’t make sense is wrong. I don’t care if you added “to me” because that could very easily be solved by skimming through the article. You’d see that it does make sense EVEN THOUGH IT DOESN’T APPLY TO ALL PEOPLE AT ALL TIMES. If you don’t want to do that, I don’t understand why you would even argue against it in the first place. You’re arguing against a headline only which is dumb. Just ignore it instead of shit posting about it.

Mate. End of the day I quite literally posted my opinion and you got all snarky and made a sarcastic dismissal of it because it’s published by an academic institution. As you just said, it doesn’t apply to all people at all times. AKA ME. Which is what I said from the beginning.

I remember the spoiler study making the rounds a long time ago and had a few discussions with some friends about it. I don't disagree that some people may be fine with spoilers and/or enjoy the works more afterwards, but I am not that kind of person. It drastically lessens the experience for me.

It's in the name. Spoil. It means either to diminish or destroy the value of something or something has gone bad or rotten.

    1. I made that comment because you dismissed it as if it was just another think-piece, which it is not. Because it is based on research it quite literally “makes sense”.

    2. You don’t know if what they say doesn’t
apply to you because you don’t know what they are actually saying. Like I said, the headline doesn’t do it justice. Nuance exists.

Shout it once more for the people in the back. Your opinion. You stated it and then made it clear it was your opinion. But it must be wrong because an academic institution published it. Jeeeeez. Slow day eh.

I agree with except for your little linguistic approach. Language evolves. Just because most people think something, and just because language therefore reflects it, doesn’t mean it is true. That’s just a general rule, a whole different discussion.

Just in general: opinions can be wrong. I know that’s not a popular take but in 2020 that should be very obvious. An opinion on an article and a study that you haven’t read can especially can very easily be wrong because it is based on nothing.

Remember yesterday when someone woke up, saw there was 2 and a half pages of posts and was then disappointed that no games had been announced

I wonder how they're going to feel today
