And a very good deal. If you can even call an entire free game a deal. A steal.

You have a Switch right, buy Tokyo Mirrage Sessions, that’s a fun game that isn’t too much of a commitment compared to say Persona 5 but still a meaty JRPG with fun turn based combat.

I’ll never understand how people enjoy RTS or turn-based gameplay...but then again I figure the same of most of this thread not getting why I enjoy RDR2 and BioShock so. There’s that haha.

Turn based is very hit and miss for me, but if it’s designed well I love it

i grow less into turn-based in a jrpg sense with each passing year i feel like, but still love turn based strategy games. honestly i love having a game where i can take as much time as i want between turns. its nice to have that pressure lifted sometimes.

tangentially ive been starting a new farm in Stardew and the speed of the days is the one flaw for me. it feels like it should be so chill but i spend my days planning them as efficiently as possible as i don't wanna waste any time. i wonder if there's a PC mod for longer days.

I will say that, in terms of difficulty, I think DS2 is the hardest game personally. DS3 is the easiest of the three. I also think Bloodborne is easier than DS1 and DS2. But “easy” in this context is relative, considering everyone approaches and reacts to these games differently. But DS2 has some frustrating mechanics and boss design that make it more unfriendly to newcomers than the other games.

Honestly I don’t know what else to say other than to just keep playing and don’t give up. I know it’s a cliche at this point and I know you’re sick of replaying the same areas over and over again, but truly the best thing you can do is to keep practicing the combat mechanics in the Undead Burg area until you start improving. Just do a run of enemies near the first bonfire and then keep going back and respawning them. This also has the added benefit of allowing you to grind for souls, so you’re improving you character’s stats while you’re doing it.

When I decided I was going to beat Dark Souls and not let the games keep beating me, I spent several hours doing this and eventually it helped me grasp a lot of the basics of the way the game wants you to play it. And once you feel better about your grasp of the basics, you can start progressing in the game for real and wait for the moment when it all clicks into place and you just “get it”. Everyone who sticks with it long enough gets it eventually and that’s the point where you fall in love with the games.

I understand not wanting to put that kind of effort and time commitment into a game that you’re down on right now, but it really is worth it in the end. It sounds hyperbolic but those games completely changed my perspective on video games and I truly cherish every hour I spent playing them all. Even the early hours where I wanted to throw my console through the wall.

Bloodborne and DS3 have significantly smoother gameplay mechanics than DS1. That was the difference-maker for me.
