w h o a - what a throwback

 

i prefer DQ to FF by a lot but a lot of that has to do with:
- active time battle systems, fucking hate them. give me turn based or give me real time combat, the middle ground halts any momentum for me.
- the settings. i am a sucker for the more fantasy driven settings. the more industrial/futurish FFs lose me on setting alone

FFXIV is exquisite though, i really wish playing it on PS4 was more enjoyable and that i had more time to devote to it.

 

A good active time battle system is amazing, it's just that there are very few good ones

Just curious, i'm really done coming off as trying to defend FF to the death but, have you played 4-9? I think you played 9 I can't remember.

 

It won best Multiplayer game for GameCube at E3 back in the day.

The game had Dan Castellaneta (Homer from The Simpsons) as one of the lead characters.

There was also some dispute over the vehicle designs being ripped off from Halo or vice versa.

lol I spent so much time playing that game's multiplayer because it felt like the 'Gamecube's Halo' in a sense because of how fun the local multiplayer was. I didn't have an Xbox and was jealous of Halo and absolutely remember the vehicles being similar, did not know it won that at E3.

although I guess we can let FFXIV slide because it's an MMO and so clearly different from the single-player FF's

 

I've always thought that FFXI and FFXIV should've been called "Final Fantasy Online" and "Final Fantasy Online 2" instead of being mainline numbered entries in the series.

Like, I hate that I'll never be able to say "I've finished all of the mainline Final Fantasy games".

 

Yeah when I say every FF since 2006 has sucked I'm obviously not including FFXIV in that lol. So weird that it's a numbered entry. Same with DQX.

1. Kamidori Alchemist Meister:
Awesome gameplay, totally lewd. 18+ hardcore.

2. Battle Engine Aquila:
Pilot a mech that transforms from flight to ground in this weird futuristic game.

3. Scrapland:
Playing as some dweeb robot, you uncover some murders or corrupt political things or something and watch another robot get fucking melted to death in boiling oil.

4. Donkey Kong Country 3 - Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!:



5. Dig Dug:
Dig. Dug.

 

It's the most tempted I've been to ever play a MMO but I still won't lol

 

i mainly watched an ex play 9 other than getting the controller handed to me for mini games like the jousting or whatever. that one rules no matter what because that art style. shouts out to bravely default for bringing it back

 

It really is pretty baffling


Also is it a rule to do one game a franchise!?

 

(Disclaimer: I am unaware if Kamidori Alchemist Meister has lewd routes for the underage looking characters and I surely hope it doesn't.)

in other shit, im like level 34 in AC Origins so i feel like im drawing to a close. haven't been this conflicted about a game in a long time. i feel like its a c+/b- game that is an a+ like 20 percent of the time. the highs are SO high. the more surrealist sequences in this draw me in like i haven't been since God of War. the amount of love put into the portrayal of Egypt never stops being astounding.

but im just so over the design philosophies that plague these games. clearing out strongholds for crumbs of xp and a blue rarity weapon im gonna break down for three wood is feelsbad. the story constantly moving the goalposts and going "wait there actually more people lol" sucks. would like to see a version of this game without "time savers" up for sale. my understanding is that Odyssey is twice as long or more so no way im touching that one. if it weren't for staying indoors 6 days a week i would've bounced off this one by now.
