It's definitely interesting to think about an alternate timeline where a larger portion of Western audiences latched on to Dragon Warrior back in the day instead of Final Fantasy. Maybe today the company would be called "Enix Square" instead.

FF is so much fuckin better than DQ as a series

I have way more experience with FF than DQ so it's hard for me to say it's definitively better, really all I can say is there's gotta be a reason why I've played way more FF than DQ over the years.

 

My issue with FF isn't that I don't think the games are good, there some great games in the series, what I don't get is why it's like the only JRPG series(except for Pokémon that doesn't really count) that took off in the West. Idk just puzzles me all the time

 

Of all the mainline FF games I've played so far, XII is the only great one. But I haven't played VI, VIII, or IX yet. And I'm playing through XIII right now. Once I'm done with the XIII trilogy, I'll probably start up VIII.

Until ffvii remake, the last good FF was released in 2006. That's enough to not warrant the pedestal that people put it on.
