about ten hours into far cry 4 and halfway done with the campaign, but I’ve been doing a lot of side stuff, which there is a lot to do. some of it is pretty shallow and repetitive but there’s a pretty big variety in what you can do and a lot of it is pretty fun. like, assassinations, hostage missions, those racing missions, outpost liberation’s and replaying them (which has made me infinitely better at this game), hunting, etc, there’s always something to do outside of the main missions. the campaign missions themselves so far are extremely well done, I just did the arena for the first time which was bonkers, this game is just so chaotic and unpredictable. I love how missions are mostly wide open and you can approach them in a variety of ways. that was my main problem with red dead 2, the painfully linear missions that will fail if you dare step outside the bubble rockstar puts around you

fav games of this gen: Skyrim special edition.

lol but for real probably the Witcher 3 and red dead 2. I’ve only really played a handful of games though, at least front to back, I’ve dabbled in quite a few

It’s honestly embarrassing, in a post-BotW/New AC/Etc. world we shouldn’t have to deal with that shit

especially since it’s the same way rockstar has structured missions since gta 3. it’s ridiculous

i've been getting back into it again after life/other games got in the way the first time around, easily one of my favorites of the series.

I have 0 issues with Rockstar's mission structure in Red Dead 2

Game of the gen for me and I'm not even done yet.

So many things in that game feel too confining to me

good list because i think all of those would make my GotG list (replacing Hitman with Hitman 2 though)

the juxtaposition of a wide open world and an extremely limited mission framework is jarring a lot of the time. rdr2 is one of my top 10 favorite games of all time easily and possibly top 5, and plenty of missions are really fun regardless. i just don’t think that kind of on the rails design is as good as a more open ended structure would have been for the game

I had been wanting Rockstar to evolve their mission design. Same with Bethesda. I have enjoyed their past games greatly but its time for them to change alot.

Im very early in Red Dead 2 so Im not sure how Ill feel about the missions but my gut feeling is that Im going to enjoy the game as a whole big time.

I've always enjoyed their (Rockstar) structuring of games in that I was being led through it in a way the designers want me to experience it, with the freedom to do batshit crazy stuff later. I think that's also part of what helped them become so successful imo.

Square Enix got me to do a quest in which the reward was a bag of kitty litter so i may not be an expert in the field of quest design

Might be finally starting the Splinter Cell tease given that Skelltech was on the monitor of the computer Sam Fisher hacked in the Ghost Recon mission.

    Or something else lol

I bought Hollow Knight a few months ago and it did nothing for me.

I just bought it again and desperately want different results.

    Send good vibes.

I enjoyed Hollow Knight but found The Messenger to be a much more rewarding platformer.

    HK is absolutely gorgeous though

    Meet me in Montauk

Super dated game design. It’s a good thing that game is so beautiful, because it’s a god damn chore to go across the map only to go somewhere else during the mission. I’m a good 50 hours into RDR2 and had to take a break from it because I was hating all the riding around. Granted there’s fast travel, but you can’t fast travel back to your camp.
