The concept of "turn-based" has really only loosely applied to Final Fantasy for a while now (outside of X, of course). The Active Time Battle meter that most of the games have used sort of do away with what we traditionally think of as "turns;" essentially, each character has their own meter that fills up at different rates based on their stats and the characters then perform actions individually when they are ready. Final Fantasy XII is actually a unique case (and I highly recommend getting the remake because it's my second-favorite in the series) in that it's design is basically that of an offline MMORPG. It's not technically an "open world," but rather a series of interconnected wide-open zones and no random encounters, as all the monsters are roaming around on the field. Your characters also can freely move around the battlefield as their meters fill up (Xenoblade Chronicles had a similar kind of battle system, if you've played that). It's a really interesting design and a great game. So I definitely second @lightning13's recommendation. Pick it up when it comes out in a few weeks.

XV is the only one that has what is strictly a real-time combat system and an open-world, though, yes.

 

The NES game is so fucking broken and hard.

 

Actively trying to get through my backlog (even as I picked up 2 games this weekend, lol). Played a bunch of Horizon this weekend and am fairly far, I think. Did get to some mission where I was warned that I better do anything on the side first before moving forward.

Plan on trying to finish up Persona 5 during the long July 4 weekend and maybe the first playthrough of Nier as well.

then some game comes out the 27th and my backlog grows, lol.

 

FF type-0 is real time and open world as well

I feel like all the choices Marcus makes in wd2 I would be making if I was playing a telltale game. (meaning he's great)

Somewhat. But I enjoyed the story and characters to a degree. There were some fun boss battles as well. And the last few rounds being a bunch of puzzles and challenges was quite thrilling. It was more dark and depressing than I thought, too.

 

Dead Rising 4 is really a blast, played a ton over the weekend.

Also, sank some more time into Forza Horizon 3. Still glorious.

I also have 675 Gamerscore in Fallout Shelter which is awesome and kind of sad...the amount of time I've killed with that game is shocking.

 

Still playing Friday the 13th. This game is so fun.

 

Going to finally finish Uncharted 4 this week.

 

Trying to get the 5 quest with 4 people trophy in Dying Light and we all keep disconnecting. Online trophies are a fucking nightmare when you have bad internet. There are games I can't platinum because of my Internet. It's the worst.

Lmao I now have th trophy though, thank god.

 

Nier is pretty good so far, i can see it laying its themes down pretty early haha

An impressive feat, speaks to the skill of the team and how well balanced DOTA is.

 

Haha by the end they probably realized they wouldn't have made it work with the current pool they had or maybe they were just playing the long con. Either way, mad props that they were able to do something that sounds like a gimmick work to their advantage.

 

I really hate myself for not really getting into The Witcher 3 before. This game is superb.

 

It's the best.

 

It's such a big game, I love how long it takes me to finish a main quest.

 

Mass Effect on 6 is interesting too
