  1. Finished Nier Automata. Wow, what a ridiculous game. Great story, amazing gameplay, and just enough meta-commentary to earn its cult status. Really special game.

Started The Last Of Us again. I tried playing it last year right after beating Uncharted 4 but it didn't click, probably because the gameplay in UC4 is so much tighter. Trying again, I'm roughly 5 or 6 hours in and really loving it.

Is remastered Last of Us noticeably different than the original? Been thinking about picking it up

It depressed me in such a beautiful way. But not like, in a Final Fantasy "heart-wrenching emotion" way, in a more existential "What the hell" way hahaha. I loved it, can't wait to play more of it.

If Vivendi takes Ubisoft over it will be a dark day for the video game industry.

I have lots of questions, and I'm looking it up but if anyone can share some insight I'd appreciate it.

    1. How bad will it be if Vivendi takes over Ubisoft?
    2. What happened to Gameloft?
    3. What can Ubisoft do to prevent that from happening, I assume just needs to please the other shareholders enough to not let them sell their shares?
    4. How did Vivendi acquire Blizzard, and how was Blizzard able to buy themselves back?

Not really well versed with stuff like these, but I'm gaining interest.

    1. Probably bad, everything that Vivendi buys has turned to shit.
    2. Gameloft is still around, they haven't went into the trash yet.
    3. They need to get some more shareholders to pledge loyalty to the guillemots, but prob won't happen.
    4. The then CEO of Vivendi wanted to get out of gaming, so Activision Blizzard took on a shit load of debt to buy themselves their freedom.

The problem with Vivendi is that they in particular have a bad track record when it comes to owning other companies, especially in the video game business. Ubisoft is too important to risk.

  12. The problem I had with Bioshock 2 was that there wasn't enough difference for it to feel like a proper sequel. Borderlands 2 still took place in Pandora, but the maps were different enough that it felt like its own entity. Saints Row IV, which actually started out as an extended DLC, basically has the exact same map as The Third, but you had powers and were fighting aliens this time. As awesome as Rapture is as a setting, a drill arm and some updated mechanics weren't enough for me. I didn't fully understand and appreciate what the game was actually going for until I played through Minerva's Den and was blown away by its emotional aspects, which, in hindsight, I now realize were present in Bioshock 2 all along. So... yeah. I take it back, Bioshock 2 (including Minerva's Den) is better than Bioshock 1. Infinite (including Burial at Sea) is still the best, though. 1 is too heady, 2 is too emotional, Infinite gets it just right. I will say, skyhooks and tears aside, I think 2 has the best mechanics. All the weapons and Plasmids just felt right.

Unless Ubisoft has something up their sleeves to fight off Vivendi I'd start looking for an alternative buyer that's more to their liking. Of course maybe that is exactly what's happening.

That's another great solution. Look at what they did with Minecraft. They acquired and nurtured them but they are doing their own thing and very successful.

Yeah, but I don't think Microsoft would go for it. Amazon is actually not that weird an idea, they have been building their games business steadily.

This whole "we asked Nintendo if Mario is human and they said yes and we asked why he looks so weird hurrdurr" thing that has been going around the video game media for the last few days is so unfunny and corny, I can't believe it's fucking real

Maybe Nintendo could buy like 25% of the company or something, would ensure third party support for them lol.

If that story had been the plot of Bioshock 2 it would not be anywhere near as maligned as it is. The actual gameplay mechanics were better in 2 anyway with the dual-wielding and stuff. But yeah Minerva's Den is shocking at the end. So good.

  25. Hey, sorry, can you reword this?
